I hold a soft spot in my heart for Pilsner Urquell because it was the beer that weaned me off the fizzy crap two decades back. I would buy ten cases at a time in my Urquell prime. Now I'll buy a twelver anytime the price is right. Urquell is what it is - the deservedly hyped icon of pilsner royalty. Michael Jackson used to comment on the brewery's soft water that left him "beckoning for another one." I have to agree - something is special about this legendary brew even if you can't pin it down. The high marks I give are out of respect. If you ever make it to Pilzen's brewery, don't miss the nearby beer museum. It's well worth it. Let's hope the conglomerate (SAB?) that now controls this classic doesn't totally destroy it in greedy fashion.
Young and dumb,
Now I'm smart,
A real beer whiz.

12oz. bottle poured into pint glass. Reviewed from brief notes.
A: Pristine golden color with a slightly off-white head that fades quickly to a foamy cap. A few wisps of lace linger along the sides of the glass.
S: A bit earthy with a lot of grainy aromas. Some bready malts as well. Weak hops beg for attention, but never quite take the lead.
T: Bready malts up front, with a bit of sweetness. A light hop bitterness underneath. Finishes strange and slightly metallic.
M: Fairly light, but heavier than the average BMC offering. Crisp and invigorating carbonation. Finishes slightly dry.
O: Definitely a drinkable beverage, but not one I'd visit solely for enjoyment. This is best paired with food and outdoor activities. Served its purpose well at a BBQ after a long day of work.
