Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Todd on 02-19-2004

This is a dark version of the weizen beer style. The grist contains a large portion of wheat, which lends a distinctive note to the malt body and aroma. This style is traditionally un-filtered and can have significant haze and cloudiness. Our Dunkle Weizen is brewed with a traditional Bavarian weizen yeast, which gives it a very pronounced clove and spice character, as well as a fruity aroma.

On tap 11/09/04 at Brewer's Alley.

Murky light brown color with a beige head. Nice balanced chocolate malt and clove aroma. Banana fruitiness is more prominant in flavor than aroma with all the other characteristics blending nicely. Medium bodied with a light creaminess.

Per BA website: The grist contains a large portion of wheat. Brewed with a traditional Bavarian weizen yeast.

Per Chalkboard: 5.4% ABV

Pours a sturdy cloudy burnished caramel topped with a pillowy soft antique white head. Aroma is a muted yet banana-esque suggestion.

First swigs: Soft banana and a twinge coppery metallic. Plenty of yeasty dough hints as a good dunkel should. Followed up with an oaky astringent feel. A bit chalky grainy and less smooth than some of my favorite versions like the General Lafayette and Vic'ry Moonglow.

Light brown in color with an almost grayish-white hue throughout the beer that looks sort of like when snow when falls on bare earth. The best of the beers I tried while I was the Brewer's Alley. It was smooth and easy drinking and went great with my french fries and watching television in the bar.

I had 4 beers at Brewer's Alley tonight, and this Dunkel Weizen comes in first place.

I've been really into wheat beers lately, and this is no slouch. An attractive golden/orangish color with a small head. The lemon/citrus is all over the nose, and smells very inviting.

The taste is great. Not quite a whitbier, ala Blue Moon, but not your regular/boring old American wheat beer, either. There is tons of lemon/citrus in the taste, followed by a blast of wheat, and finished up with yeast.

The mouthfeel stands up to the taste and is well rounded and balanced.

This is an extremely refreshing and rejuvinating beer. Highly recommended.

This beer is definitely my favorite from this brewery; my nose is sadly near worthless (surgery) however this brew has a good golden\yellow color, and a good even head (not too carbonated.) A sweet beer, very banana-fruity and highly drinkable. You don't want to stick a lemon in this one, it's best straight off the tap. Sadly not in a bottle, but growlers are available. Goes especially well with the free cajun buffet (wings and crawdads) on Wednesdays.
