Drank on cask at Brewer's Alley in Frederick, MD. Aged in Maker's Mark barrel. Taken from notes:
Appearance: Color is black, deep beige 1-finger head with sticky lacing, served at 55ºF.
Smell: The aroma of Maker's Mark is subtle and delightful. Other aroma of sweet milk chocolate, and unsweetened cocoa. Malts are not super-present, as they are overshadowed by the chocolate flavors.
Taste: Very smooth and light cocoa flavor, slightly hot Maker's mark, and a touch of roasted dark malts -- more present in taste than in aroma.
Mouthfeel: Leaves slight heat of bourbon and bitter chocolate on the palate. At 6.2% ABV, I'm impressed with the amount of flavor balance at this temperature, as I usually would prefer the temp to be a little bit lower.
Drinkability: This certainly drinks like an oatmeal stout. It's smooth like a Guinness, but not as watery. I love the hint of bourbon on this version!
Serving type: cask
