Easily, the best place for craft beers in all of Denton County. Kind of a barbecue stand that has grown organically into many specialties including a deli and wine merchant.

Selection is not as extensive as Central Market but beats all but the most aggressive liquor stores in North Texas. I especially like the separation of American craft, imports and bombers into their own coolers, easier to check things off at a glance. Their specialty wine stock needs mention here, also, as it is better than a lot of other "wine stores" in this area. Lots of port, German wines and limited vintages in excess of a Benjamin.

Store includes a long deli case of imported meats and cheeses and, of course, the barbecue is still served on a plate or to go. (Tip for non-Texans: Forget chain restaurants, the best barbecue is in no-name, individual places like these.) Easy to find and get in-and-out of and the staff is friendly and helpful, if not too very knowlegeable about the beer.

Unsuspecting craft beer place with good bbq. Do some beer shopping and then enjoy some bbq afterwards.

They had a really good selection of beer, probably the second best place in denton after midway mart.

This place is great! I stopped in for a look around today, and walked out with a Left Hand Twin Sisters DIPA and a Rogue Shakespeare Stout. If you look around, they have some good deals on bombers, as compared to say, Midway Mart, but not the same selection. I was hoping to pick up another SN Wet Hop, which they didn't have any of, although the 6ers of Sierra Nevada were pretty cheap. They didn't have the new Real Ale Coffee Porter, or any St Arnold seasonals, save a handful of Summer Pils's.

They had some pretty nice specials for lunch; I didn't have anything, but it smelled really good. The lady told me that I could bring my bomber over to the restaurant and drink it there, but if I got a six pack I wouldn't be allowed to drink it in the store. They had Harpoon on tap in the restaurant for 2.75/12oz, 4.25/22oz, Shiner was even cheaper.

I will say that I was appalled to see the six packs pushed up against the glass window in the front of the store, under racks of French Wines.... all that light and heat! Overall a nice selection of warm and cold beers, friendly staff, even if they didn't help me pick out any beers... I think they could tell I was just browsing aimlessly, and they were selling several cases of wine to someone for an event, so I can't say I blame 'em.

I will definitely be back here often!

EDIT: Finally stopped in for the food, it was AMAZING! the BBQ platter for 2 was $10 and included beef/pork sandwich, a side, and a soft drink. The beer came in a styrofoam cup, which was weird... i think next time i'll ask for my beer in the plastic souveneir cup you get with a soda...

This is a great place not only to buy some hard to find beer and wine but also a great place to sit and sample. Metzler's has great food and you can go and pick a beer or two and drink it while eating a bad ass turkey melt. The selection is a lot better then your local liquor or grocery stores however their staff doesn't seem to know much about what they have. They haven't been able to make any good recommendations as far as what to try next or whats good already there. You have to go in with your own beer education, but the food, the selection and the price make up for it. A great beer destination for those who know what they are looking for.

09/06/2008 Hmmmm, the last few times I've been to Metzler's I've been unimpressed. The selection has faltered and the beer they do have is all past the best by date. WTF happened? At least the food is still good. I can get the same beer now at the local market street grocery store.

Another great beer store in an unusual location - reminds me of Hall's which has the best selection in DFW but is in a convenince store. Found Metzler's by doing a BeerFly search and am so glad I did. They had an incredible selection and the prices were great. I was just recently at Hall's and this place is 25-50% cheaper on beers that I just bought. I had just eaten so didn't try the food but it smelled great so I'll try that next trip. I bought 4 different beers and all 4 tasted great but the Prima Pils had an expiration date that was 2 months past so I'm only giving 4 on quality for now. If you are in the area, you'd do yourself a favor to stop in.

When I'm not going to Midway Mart, out of convenience, I usually head to Metzler's. Best selection in Denton, but it seems that the product doesn't move off the shelves as fast as it does at Midway. The employees are nice and will answer your questions, but I have been given misinformation in the past.

Pros are: 1) best BBQ in Denton; 2) best beer selection; 3) cheaper than Midway by a dollar or so (usually). Only problems are that, again, the product doesn't move off the shelves as quickly, the employees seem to be less informed, and it usually takes a while for them to get new beers or seasonals.
