Dropped by Union Street on this Saturday afternoon for a couple beers and food. Gotta love the weekends.

A big, multi-leveled sports bar in Newton Centre. We sat downstairs in the lower level. Some good beer selections here, not a beer destination. Draft beers are typical for the area with a couple of interesting speciality beers on tap. 21st Amendment Back In Black IPA was an option, but unfortunately it had kicked earlier.

Anyhoo, I had a couple of fresh Rogue Dead Guy Ales. Other bottle highlights include Allagash White, Lagunitas Pils, DFH 60 Minute IPA, Chimay Grand Reserve, Frankiskaner Hefe-Weisse and Cisco Whale's Pale Ale. Beware though, bottles are served in frozen pint glasses.

Food was good with solid pub options available. Wings, pizza, burgers, wraps, etc. The Italian Egg Rolls were f'in delicious and worth getting if you visit. The Boneless Buffalo Chicken was good too.

My parents took my wife and I here last weekend so they would get to spend some time with our seven-month old. The place wasn't packed on Sunday at around 1pm and it was a nice day so we sat on the outdoor patio. They have a 4-taps that rotate Sam Adams, Cambridge Brewing, Harpoon, and a fourth local brewer, along with maybe 20 good tap choices. There is also a substantial bottle selection. Everyone was pleased with their food. Lunch sandwiches and entree salads, so nothing complex, but everything was tasty and the fries were crispy. I had a Cambridge Brewing Hefe and an Ommegang BPA (which was fantastic). I wouldn't go here often, but it really is a nice option to have. If you happen to be passing through Newton and are looking for some good options it's worth a look.

Note: I've also been at night and it is more of a younger crowd. Lots of 20-somethings from the surrounding area. It used to get crowded on weekend nights, not sure if this is stil the case or not.

Been here about a dozen times over the past few years.

Located in the heart of Newton Centre. Public parking is just across the street (sorta) and there's a D-line stop nearby - very convenient. Has three levels and a patio with umbrellas and heaters for chilly nights. Lots of TVs, and the bar is a decent size. Service is usually decent.

I think calling this place a "Beer Bar" might be a slight stretch, however it has a nice selection for what it is. The draught list is somewhat limited, but it does have some standbys - Bass, Guinness, Harpoon, Sam, etc. They have a dozen or so "Specialty Bottles" in stock, which cover a nice bit of ground in the craft beer world. This isn't the place to go to if you want some ultra-rare brew, but there are some nice picks at reasonable prices - DFH60, Allagash White, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Chimay Blue, and Franziskaner off the top of my head. Additionally, there are a bunch of rotating beers on the specials menu that are worth checking out.

The food is decent for what it is. The menu is pretty big, so chances are you'll be able to find something you'll like. I usually go for a burger when I'm here, which are always pretty good. The mac & cheese is nice as well. Not crazy about their onion rings, but the fries are good. I've had chicken sandwiches a couple times, and they have always been chewy (friends seem to agree, but enjoy their pizzas, fish & chips, burrito, salads, etc.).

Definitely a local favorite. Again, it won't win any awards for food quality or beer selection, but it's a nice place to sit and enjoy some food and drinks without breaking the bank.

My wife and I went here yesterday on Memorial Day, mainly to enjoy the great outdoor patio area. This was her first visit, and my first time back in probably 6-7 years. Inside is very nice and modern, with lots of dark wood and tvs, but on a nice day like Monday, outside was where everybody was. The patio area was packed. Plenty of umbrellas for all to share. We did get a nice table in a corner with a good amount of sun. Very relaxed atmosphere. Our server was friendly but forgetful. We had to ask twice for a glass for my beer and for water, and we never did get our water. Beer selection was good, but I would have rated it higher if not for the fact that they were out of a few beers. Our waitress said that they get deliveries on Tuesdays. On tap was mostly macros, Sam, and Sierra Nevada. Bottle selection was a bit better. Lots of local beers like Smutty, Mayflower, Brooklyn, Sea Dog and other craft beers like Abita and Boulder, plus a couple Germans like Paulaner and Franziskaner. I had a Brooklyn Summer and a draft Hoegaarden, while my wife had the Sea Dog Blueberry and a Brooklyn Summer. My chicken sandwich was very good, and my wife enjoyed her salad with chicken. Our bill was $55 for four beers and two meals with tip. I am sure that if we are thinking about having some food outside this summer, the great patio at Union Street will now be one of our go-to option.

Right off a T-stop on the Riverside line; I decided to have dinner there after a job interview. It was kind of hard to find since its behind the main street of shops near the T-stop. The place had a medium sized patio that was open and overall had a large establishment. Two floors (with I guess a private area for events) and a decent bar area. Smooth wood textures were the main theme of the establishment. Somewhat dim lights across the place, which seemed odd for a place that advertised heavy on sports nights. With the loud pop music you would think this was a heavy social place, but it was rather chill. Several plasma TVs, but all of them were either set on MSNBC or ESPN. Service was quite good; I had a nice conversation with the bartender. Well staffed overall. The food was excellent with a wide array of entrees. I had what was basically a double blue cheese burger which was decadently good. The beers they had in bottle and on tap was nice quality and all over the place. I had a Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale for the evening. Overall, for a place in Newton, this was a nice, if off-centered place for either chill evenings or sports nights.

This is a restaurant in Newton Centre right across the street from the Green Line Stop. It is a casual Bar and Grille type, similar to Cityside in Cleveland Circle, basically a non-chain and slightly better version of TGI Friday's or Applebees. I have gotten both a burger (good) and a Reuben (not so great). The food is definitely better than the average pub. The beer selection is also better. The tap list is relatively average...there are some decent choices like DFH 60 min, Brooklyn Lager, etc. The bottle list nicely supplements the tap list with options such as Young's Oatmeal Stout and Domaine DuPage French Style Country Ale. I would say that this is a pretty good place to grab a beer and a meal, but it is not quite suited to a full session due to the lack of a great selection.

This was my first time to the place. We chose to be seated out on the patio because in late July it's the place to be. I was impressed by the beer selection, or should I say I wasn’t expecting such a good selection. The selection wasn’t large but what was on tap did impress. Brooklyn Lager, Pete's wicked rally cap and strawberry blond, Dogfish Head Indian Brown, Sam Adams, PBR, Bass, and other well-crafted brews (I know I forgot some good ones, see the reviews below for more). I got the special salad of the day, very good. Overall a great place to eat and drink, I hope to visit again to see how there draft choices change for the seasons, and have a good bite to each, not just generic freezer foods. Price for my steak salad $8, for the dogfish head Indian brown $4.25.

A cool little place tucked away in Newton Center. They have around 20 brews on tap including a couple Magic Hat beers. There are three levels to this place but I stay on the middle floor. The upstairs has live music and a different bar. This is a great place to go to in the summer as they have a nice patio deck. Easy access to this place via the green line makes it a worth while trip.

This spot features better-than-average pub-style food, an upstairs bar with a pool table and live music many nights, a ground-level bar area, a basement dining area, and an outdoor patio. Each of the bars has about 20 taps, with the same beers at each. On a recent visit, the taps included 2 from Magic Hat, 2 from Shipyard, Brooklyn Dunkelweisse, Harpoon IPA, Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada Brown Ale, Guinness, Bass, Blue Moon, Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde, Dogfish 90 minute IPA, Magic Hat HIPA amongst others. Right at the Newton Centre T stop, so you can stumble home! One negative - the drafts are a little expensive at $5 a pint.
