I went to the Woodlands location, and frankly wasn't really impressed. There was a bit of a wait but being that its The Woodlands that's too be expected anyways.

Our server was knowledgeable and good with kids but fairly inattentive. The food selection was great but very hard to decide on, some of which was dictated by price alone. Not a normal family eatery. They do however make their own soda in house, and that's always a treat for kids.

BJ's also has their own brews. Which i tasted their Irish Red i believe, it wasn't bad but not impressive. I know for a fact that at least of some their beer is made for them by a local brewery, dont know if I can state which one so i wont.

It was pricey, loud, the food was good but left a little more to be desired. Its so busy that the servers cant seem to keep up that well. The food alone would have me coming back, if there is such a thing as a slower time to go.

This is an average, sterile pub/restaurant. It has a chain like atmosphere, but big and comfy. Service is standard. The food was just average, I have only been there a couple of times, so maybe there are better things to eat. I had a very average burger and ribs the two times I eat there.

Anyway, on to the beer. BJ's selection runs from a kolsh to stout. Without getting into in-depth reviews, everything is safe and by the books. Contract brewed at that. Nothing stands out and the definition of bland and safe. As would be expected.

This is a pretty cool BJ's. I've been to a few other ones around the city and this one just seems to be in the heart of all the action...There is a movie theater right up the road so dinner and a movie is very possible to achieve...They also still have all of the BJs brews which are a treat every time I go there... My waiter here knew which beers of theirs to pair with food which was really cool....The only issue I had was finding the dang place!!! If you pass it up when driving East on 1960 past 249, you have to U-turn and go back passes 249 and U-turn again. Which is nearly impossible during rush hour!!!

This isn't the easiest place to find on 1960. A u turn after passing it I made it to the restaurant. It seems like a pretty popular place as the place was packed the night my wife and I went. There was a 45 minute wait which wasn't a big deal as they were pretty busy. We got our first beers from the bar for the wait I got the red and my wife got the hefe. BJ's contracts their brewing with Saint Arnolds which is too bad because that hefe was pretty good I'd buy it at the store if Saint Arnold would bottle it but its only at BJ's. After a wait of about 30 minutes we got sat at our table which I thought was decent with the crowd there. For dinner I ordered a Cajun shrimp pasta dish that was very good and it was a big serving as well. I also ordered their beer sampler that comes with four of their beers. One of the beers on it was their red that I got before dinner started so I asked if I could have the red substituted with the brown and that was no problem. The beers are either good or unimpressive the blond and porter were just ok beers while the red, brown, apa, and hefe were pretty damn good. While this location isn't actually a brew on premise brewpub the beer is their recipe and they make some good food. All in all if you want some good beer and good food check the place out.

I've been to this location and nothing really stands out that would make this a favorite hang out. They have several big screens by the bar to watch sports, but there is nothing unique about the restaurant or bar.

I've found the food and beer selection to be quite average. The house brews are decent, but i have yet to sample anything that was really outstanding.

Also, the selection other than the house beers is pretty small and the waitstaff didn't seem very knowledgeable about beer. There are better places in town to visit.

Visited here in June. Great location with a movie theater nearby if I recall. Nice place, good parking and seemed very busy both times I visited. Beers were good for a commercialized brewery. Visited other locations in Chandler and Scottsdale, AZ that were smaller and less busy but this was a good place. No complaints at all. Walk in the bar is ahead up steps to the right, seating area is ahead and off to the left extending to back. I recommened this place to some family who had no idea what beer was outside of Bud and they liked it too.

Damn, this place is not easy to get to if you are heading east on FM1960. You have to cut over 2 lanes of traffic, cut through a parking lot, go around a hotel, then back onto a road where you can turn in.

Once you get their, the first thing you WON'T notice is any brewing equipment. I understand they farm out those duties to St. Arnolds (the only Houston micro-brewery). They don't even try to give you the illusion there might be brewing going on here.

The space inside is very large, and open, typical neo-warehouse style. I opted to sit at the bar.

I ordered up a Piranha Pale Ale - which was very good.

For food I selected 'The Wedge" which was a wedge of iceberg lettuce smothered in Blue Cheese, real bacon bits and a few other garnishes. It was a perfect pre-dinner salad option. I also had the jambalaya accompanied by the Tatonka Stout. The ABV is very noticeable, but it does not take away from the roasty chocolaty taste. The jambalaya was excellent. A bit spicy, but very good, and the portion is also quite generous. Desert consisted of a PM Porter, also very good.

I have to give atmosphere a point off, since 50% of the patrons I noticed were drinking Coors Lite or Bud Lite. There is definitely more of a restaurant feel to this establishment. I question how many people are there for the beer.

They also had 8 BJ's beer on tap, along with Guinness, a Sam Adams seasonal, and a Belgian.

In Houston this is one of your few options. I guess in Texas, where bigger is better they must not apply this to their beer IQ? Or maybe the climate doesn’t lend itself to microbrewing? I don’t understand why such a large metro area only boasts 1 real brewpub and 1 microbrewery.

I usually get here about five times/year-always for a Friday happy hour.

Firstly, it is just east of SH 249 on the south side of FM 1960. It is in "front' of the Willowbrook Mall-if you're heading east off of SH 249 make sure you stay in the far right lane or you'll fly right past it. It is much more than 1 mile east of US 290. And it is FM 1960 West-the "west" addresses start at US 59 near Humble.

As shown above the beers are contract brewed by St. Arnold-that is a good thing. The recipes are BJ's though. I usually start out with a hefeweizen-a well done beer I wish St. Arnold would brew instead of their filtered wheat. The red, stout, and porter are all also very good. You do have to ask for a room temp glass though or your lips will stick to the glass..

They have a good happy hour selection for food-personal pizzas are nice and are half price while the beers are $1 off.

Service is usually good though is can lapse at times even while sitting in the bar area. Really our only choice in north Houston for a brewpub type ambience and local beer. This area needs a good brewpub that brews on premises. Now non-smoking!!!

I am down in Houston for business and decided to stop into this Brewery for a few pints. As a start to the night at every new brewery I go to I get the sampler. Currently on tap as of 10/30/06 BJ's Brewery has the Brewhouse Blonde, Harvest Hefeweizen, Piranha Pale Ale, Jeremish Red, PM Porter, and the Tatonka Stout.

Personally I liked the Harvest Hefeweizen and Piranha Pale Ale. The Harvest Hefeweizen has a great fruity spice to it, but I have to say the Piranha Pale Ale was the best beer of the night. It was extremely fragrant, very hoppy, and the bite was very nice.

BJ's is also "famous" for its pizza. Its deep dish, but coming from the NY/NJ area I wasn't impressed.

If your in the Houston area this is worth the trip. Try the Harvest Hefeweizen, Piranha Pale Ale, or the Jeremiah Red.One last note the address says FM 1960 West, but its on the East side.

Located right off FM 1960 less than a mile from 290 is a brewpub that is great for friends and family.
My friend and I was out one night prowling, looking for a good place to eat. We where almost to the end of 1960 and had decided to turn around to choose a resteraunt we had previously seen, till we saw a big sign that said "BJ's Restsaunt and Brewhouse". Well naturally the brewhouse part caught our eye,so we made a B-line to this place.
The food has always been great everytime we have been there. They claim they are famous for their pizzas, though iv'e never had any my friend tells me they may be right. I can can say the chicken fried steak is quite a delicious treat. All there dinners are fairly priced, roughly $8-$13 for a plate.
The beer selection is interesting. They have your typical drafts such as BMC,they have brands such as Samuel Adams and New Belgium, but the most intrigueing was there homebrew selection. They offer a 3oz sampler of each of their brews all at one time, setting each beer on its descripition, for you to read further about this style, while the waiter is telling you a little about each beer as well. Total of 7 samples rangeing from a really good 7% red ale,8% stout that is my favorite,4- 5% hefewiezen, and even some ciders. I'm not crazy about their ciders but everything else was good.
They also have a Belgian list. A few to name off the top of my head is,Westmalle, Lindemans, scaldis, lambics, and even duvel. This is the place where I first tried Westmalle Dubbel, served in a cool Westmalle chalice that I later got to take home cause the waiter was very nice and had some pull with bartender. Excelent beer by the way,one of my now favorite Belgians. I've also got to leave with a lindemans flute glass(it pays to tip well)
A great place indeed if you haven't been over here I would recommend BJ's to you all. Hope you enjoy.

BJ's- Willowbrook is conveniently located at 249/ 1960. The signs are prominently displayed on FM 1960 and it's easy to find. The interior was lively and exciting. The restaurant was very clean. The food was tasty and good. They have a great selection no matter whether you want to eat standard brewpub fare or whether you want something a little lighter. I particularly liked that the atmosphere was family friendly. Good selection of their own beer. One drawback- only their Clear Lake location sells their bottled beer. They don't sell it at the Willowbrook location.
