Not sure if it was a bad bottle but poured it down the drain. No balance at all.

No bottle date, poured into an IPA glass.

Appearance: Crystal clear tea color, thin collar ok lacing.

Aroma/Flavor: Medium light intensity dank and tropical hop aroma. More of the same on the palate with a touch of caramel and toast. Perceived bitterness is light.

Mouthfeel: Medium+ body dissipating finish.

Nothing bad, just not super intense.

Tastes the way the name suggests. Aromatics left a lot out.

Overbearing toasty malt base and a less than appealing hop profile that doesn't add much beyond bitterness.

Different. Taste comes at you right away, but disappears. High ABV.

So this thing was an odd duck immediately upon pour. Hazy as a nice hefeweizen but a touch more brown. Stark in contrast, the white quickly dissipating white head left behind just a gentle remnant of lacing. Nose, well, that's where we begin the derail. If beer had a black box, the NTSB would have heard "We have an overwhelming presence of malt and are losing hop lift" at this point. If you age a barley wine that was intended to be very hop forward, than this is what the nose and taste both were like. In reality, I aged a 90 minute once just to see what would happen and save for the heat, this beer right here - this is what happened. On the finish, there was bitterness a plenty but it seemed very contrived since there was not really a lot of other hop taste characteristics other than resiny. Not a jaw dropping DIPA by any measure.

I'll be straight forward. The taste is all that matters to me. So keep that in mind when reading my reviews. I simply did not care for the particulate floating around. And much like a kiddo drinking OJ with pulp, my hate for the floating bits did not subside. Rather, my dislike for a beer that not only had nasty bits to the point of almost chewing, it also did not have a flavor which sparked with my Porter loving palate. Maybe I can enjoy IPAs but perhaps double IPAs are too much for me.

Dangerously drinkable double IPA, strangely not a lot of hop flavor, very malty.

A real great balance of malts and hop, with a toasty flavor. The hops presence was well flavored. The alcohol content was there but not overpowering. A very good ipa for everyone. If you are a hop hound and like hoppiness, then you will be critical of it. I would buy this again to share or just to have for myself

12 oz bottle poured into a stemmed glass, pretty cloudy. Good balance of malt and hop bitterness. Not what I consider a typical west coast ipa or as citrusy as I like.

A: Creamy whipped covering over a rustic orange colored body with a sharp clarity. Healthy steady rise of macro-bubbles, moderately paced. Milky cream covering of lace on the spiegelau ipa glass, with a lasting coverage atop.

S: Toasted caramel and citrus for aroma, moderate awareness, a bit disappointed considering the name sake and was expecting a bit more wallop to the nostrils. Lightly dry grapefruit pulp and pine with a dry powdery malt like finish.

T: Toasted dry malt upfront for flavor, resinous pine juice and grapefruit flowery hops. Alcohol is very low key, barely noticeable with some sticky citrus and juicy hops sneaking through the big malted body, but alas, as much with the nose never seems to be enough. Finishes with a bit of grassiness.

M: Nice carbonation, sticky malt and hop resins on the tongue. Some very light alcohol mentions but again no where near what a 9.7% should feel like.

O: Overall while the hop and bitterness level was a bit of let down per name sake, it doesn't mean this was a disappointment. In fact this showed a great balance of malts and hop, with a big, toasty character, while the hops were appreciable. The alcohol content was well hidden, a very good ipa for the masses. If you were expecting a hop bomb or the next great thing, and are overly critical per style, you may say you were mislead, but in the end this remains a beer i would buy frequently for sharing with friends and think this deserves a bit better then advertised for its balance and drinkability.

A: Mud brown, and so cloudy that light practically doesn't come through. A weak amount of head, slightly tan and while there isn't much of it, there is certainly some staying power.

S: Lighter citrus and floral aromas as well as honey bread. Caramel malt in the background.

T: Good hop flavor, resin, citrus peel, and a nice grapefruit flavor rounding out the finish. Slightly herbal on the end with decent caramel malt balance.

M: Medium light in body, carbonation is lively, and there is a bit of an acid bite in the linger.

O: Overall the flavor is pretty good, but the appearance and smell are lacking. Not necessarily juice of a hop..

Very malty for an IPA. I can taste the alcohol but it's not overwhelming. The pine-flavored hops come through at the end leading to a sticky mouthfeel.

Pours deep amber with a small head.
Aroma of resinous hops along with spicy notes, a little booze and a massive clean malt note.
Malty flavours but a load of resinous hops with some pine too. A little soft booze and some herbal hops later on.
Nice moderate carbonation.

12 oz bottle (could not find any dating) poured into a tulip glass.

A - Pours a ruby orange with a touch of cloudiness. Thin half finger head.

S - Dense, centered around berries (strawberry), blood orange, some piney hops and a touch of heat.

T - Very malt forward, doughy even, before some back end hops and bitterness peaks through. Once you breathe out you notice the ABV.

M -- Moderate to below moderate carbonation. Sits full in the mouth.

O - I thought it was tasty. Nothing will jump out and blow your mind (which seems to be a needed separator in this space). Its almost like an American and English DIPA blend.

Appearance - 4/5
An extremely clear orange, with minimal head. Looks appetizing

Smell - 3/5
Strong smells of hops, chocolate (yes, that's what I smell), maybe faint smells of citrus.

Taste - 3.25/5
Sweet and smooth, tastes of hops, chocolate, and honey. Nothing special about the taste, besides it being extremely smooth for a double IPA.

Mouthfeel - 3.5/5
Medium body, tastes slightly creamy, which is unique for an IPA. Carbonation is nicely balanced

Overall - 4/5
I don't know quite how to define it, but despite some of my low ratings in the various categories for this beer, I steel feel like I like it. I don't love it. But it is something I would consider getting every once in a while

A - Pours a burnt orange / amber color with not much head to speak of other than wispy clouds that circulate the glass. Good clarity.

S - Citrus zest, floral, honey, caramel, resinous.

T - Citrus hops, some resinous notes, heavy on the sweet side - honey, warming alcohol. Finishes clean with a slight bitter after taste.

O - This is a solid DIPA, but does nothing to knock your socks off. Slightly muted hop explosion for this style which is a bit disappointing.

A: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a dull orange color a cloudy texture. There was a half inch of foamy head that lasted a good amount of time. Very good lacing.

S: A nice aroma of hops, pine, and some citrus as well.

T: Tasted of a large amount of hops, light citrus (grapefruit), malt, and a light pine element. The flavor is a bit uneven, especially where the hops are concerned; it gets a little bitter and too hops-forward. Other than this, not bad.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a bitter, somewhat harsh finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Hop Juice won't break any new ground in the DIPA style, but is pretty solid. It's slightly inconsistent, but worth a try.
