Poured from a 22 oz bottle to a standard pint glass (notes from 8/19/11):
A - Poured a dark burnt orange with 1-finger cream/beige foamy head. Strong retention with spotty lacing. Shines yellow-orange when held up to the light, with a moderately dense swirl of very fine sediment.
S - Moderate piney scent at fist, with a strong clovey herb scent. A tiny bit of banana, a little more orange peel, and a hint of smokiness also present. Scent goes toward melon as it warms.
T - Strong piney and orangey hop sweetness that is immediately tempered by strong pine/grapefruit bitterness. A Belgian-style spice mix (80% clove, 20% banana) is present after the initial hop blast and lingers through the bitterness phase. Finishes with a spicy peppery orange hoppiness, that lingers. No booziness present.
M - Medium body, sizzly strong carbonation at front of the tongue. Loose and creamy fluid texture, finishing thin. Heat in the back of the throat lingers.
D - Decent. Intense Belgian floral herbiness isnt something I've run into much in DIPAs. The mild peppery finish and lack of booziness is pleasant though. The bitterness is harsh, but not totally extreme. Glad I tried it, but I wouldn't get it again.
