Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a St. Bernardus goblet.
Appearance: Pours a hazy copper golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head that quickly fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing on the glass.
Smell: A yeasty, sweet, and bready Belgian style aroma with hints of fruit and sugar. Upfront Belgian yeast with hints of funk, pepper, and clove. Sweet hints of candied sugars. Bready malt with hints of biscuit, grains, wheat, caramel, straw, and cracker. Fruit hints of orange peel, banana, apple, white grape, pineapple, and peach. Some honey like sweet hints as well. Subtle hops. Scent of alcohol comes through. A decent aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a sweet and yeasty Belgian style taste with notes of bread, fruits, and sugar. Belgian style yeast along with notes of funk, peppers, and clove. Big sweet taste of candied sugar and a little note of honey. Bready malt profile with notes of grains, biscuit, caramel, wheat, cracker, and straw. Fruity notes of banana, orange, apple, grapes, pineapple, and peach. Some alcohol taste comes through. Hops are very subtle. A decent Belgian inspired taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Somewhat chewy, slick, and syrupy. Alcohol is felt but things are still fairly smooth overall.
Overall: A decent take on the Tripel style. Sweeter and more bready than typical for the style but it tastes nice.

22oz Bottle with my FW Snifter glass

A: Dark caramel body with an orangey glow and some decent clarity. Thin layer of wispy paper white froth washes out to a ring hugging the glass wall. Little to no stick only some leggy runners really.
S: Smells of sweet golden malts that give off a husky graininess. I get some ripe yellow pear and apple fruit like esters along with a light dusting of Belgian yeast spices of coriander, clove, and dried banana peel. Alcohol is fairly strong and fusel like. A big beer no doubt.
T: This is a candy sweet malt overload. Cloyingly so with some grainy Pilsner surfacing out of the sweet fruity malts. Again the yeast is understated with subtle coriander, clove, and banana bubblegum. There is an oddly sharp bite of earthy hop bitterness there and a big warming alcohol spice finish. Improving as I make my way through the 22oz but still barely passable. Really not much depth to this.
M: Syrupy thick with medium full body and a lower amount of carbonation. Slight dryness to it and a higher amount of warming alcohol on the finish. Sticky feel overall.
D: A real insulin shocker. Just over the top with the malt sugars and boozy alcohol. Not much else to this. Admittedly so this gets a little better as the thing warms up and the ABV starts to run its course. But I could not possibly recommend this for a Tripel.

Had it on tap at the Perch in Chandler, AZ on 29 Jun 2014.
A - Deep golden to orange color. Clear. The head is white and forms a thin sheet, along with a thick ring around the glass. Thick lacing.
S - Aroma of sweet, bready malt and alcohol dominate everything. There is a faint vegetal note that reminds me of iced tea out of a restaurant dispenser that hasn't been cleaned properly.
T - Far too sweet. Not much malt in flavors. There are plenty of honey and sugar-like notes. Some fruit from yeast. Cloyingly sweet finish.
M - Full body. Creamy carbonation. Huge, boozy alcohol presence. Hops bitterness is not noticeable.
O - Unbelievably sweet and cloying. I can't believe this is what the brewer intended this beer to taste like. Maybe this batch had unusually poor attenuation? This is not like any tripel I've ever had. Only a hummingbird could enjoy this sugar and booze bomb.

as a belgian tripel, hell no. better as an american strong ale, but this thing is all malt, way to heavy for the style, simple, and lacking any real belgian yeast character. its also a booze bomb and shows all of its 11% abv all the way through. i was so impressed with their wedge black ipa, and was staring to think they had it figured out, but this is an abomination as a tripel. caramel colored, it looks too dark and grain heavy, and the first sip shows that. its too sweet, too coppery, and lacking the wheat and oat nuance we love in the well made belgian ones. the yeast also seems like a pretty unexciting high gravity strain, no belgian brightness of feel, no fruity esters, not even the ability to dry out all the fermentables. its way off stylistically, but never mind that, i dont even really like it, its so grain forward and dull, and coupled with all the booze, its tough to drink, especially in warm weather. i had to dump out the second half of the bomber, it just wasnt appealing. i tried to like this beer, and i keep trying to life left coast, but their successes have to work real hard to cover for misses like this. short of a waste of grain, but could be seen that way by a harsher critic.
