*12 oz. bottle* Ok, this is my first time of getting my hands wet with Left Coast Brewing. Lets see what we got. When poured this turned out to have a black body with a mocha lacing around my glass. When I popped this baby's cherry (cap). I could smell the aroma of German chocolate cake... mmm. After getting my head in to this I found highly roasted malts, with hints of coffee. German chocolate with a hint of mild pine oil. Interesting. After this beer made love to my sense of smell, now I want to plunge in and get a feel for her. The taste is bitter chocolate. Burnt malts follow yet not offensive. I pick up some cherry pit with hints of espresso. Slightly bitter finish leaves its mark on your taste buds. The feel on the palate is medium-light smooth body with a very tight and sharp carbonation.

Overall: This stout is pretty solid. Very decent roasted malt flavors with a nice touch of bitter chocolate. If complexity you're looking for.. this one is a little tamed, just to the point stout. The aroma for me is the highlight on this brew. I thought I was baking a German Chocolate Cake while brewing some morning coffee. This is very drinkable for being 8.5% abv. This one just doesn't scream excellence to me (IMO). This brew is worthy.

Once you get past the cheesy label, a great beer awaits. Dark murky brown to black in color, with thin beige head, creamy but not substantial like an Guinness. Nose is coffee, roast grains, dark chocolate, burnt toast. Taste is roast grains with a tinge of bitterness, deep burnt flavor lingers. Slick and velvety, goes down smooth.

I think this is an underrated, affordable American stout. The 16 oz can marked "best when enjoyed within 30 days of purchase" and showing no canning date cost me about $3.10 and yielded a really nice stout with un-subtle flavors of coffee first, cocoa/chocolate second, and roasted grains third. I think the flavors would have been even bolder if I had let it warm up a bit first from fridge temperature. Pours a very dark brown/off black color with about 1/2 finger of tan head that slows recedes to leave a thin film of foam with a thicker ring of foam at the glass edge. The smell is less distinct that the flavor. No real distinct bitterness, very smooth with body in about the mid range for a stout. Mild carbonation in mouthfeel. I'm going back to buy more of this....

The pour is beautiful. A dark... some would say stout color with a thick tan head. It smells beery, with a stout scent and notes of dark chocolate. The taste is bitter up front with coffee notes. It has a smooth, creamy mouthfeel with just a light bit of fizzy carbonation. The finish is alcoholic, sweet and then bitter with pleasant chocolate notes coming back in and lingering.

Had this several years ago in Hawaii and remember really liking - this time good but not great. 650 ml bottle split 2 ways. Pours a deep black with scant mocha head (did I not pour aggressively enough?). Aroma is strong on the roasted malt, burnt coffee - some dark chocolate. Taste follows - espresso, bitter dark chocolate but the roasty bitterness just seemed off balance with nothing to smooth out that bitterness. Really not a bad beer but just a little off balance.
