Poured a nice straw yellow with a two finger white head. Quite pretty. Scents of bubblegum with very slight sour funk and some perfume notes. It smelled good, though perhaps a bit too dominated by bubblegum. Flavor began with grainy malt, Belgian sour funk, some earth flavors, slight bubblegum, a bit of tartness and some citrus notes. A pretty good flavor profile, a bit more complexity than what I expected, though not quite as wild in character as I prefer in a saison. Mouthfeel was light bodied with moderate carbonation, quite refreshing on a hot day. Overall I quite enjoyed this saison. While it's not a perfect example of the style by any means it has enough character to make it worth drinking and it is particularly nice on a hot summer day. I'd have it again.

The off-white head is bubbly and big and inpatient as it floats away from this resplendently orange brew. Big notes of orange, grapefruit and grain waver above the rim of the tulip, followed by a hint of lemon meringue. Fruity and yeasty going down with an essence of pepper, butterscotch and a lemon tartness at the end. Creamy up front with a dry finish and a palpable alcohol heat. There's not much farmhouse to Board Walk, but it still works on a number of levels, and provides for a flavorful experience nonetheless.

Acquired for $4.50 at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa. Reviewed live. 7.80% ABV confirmed. 1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a New Belgium stem-goblet in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Expectations are average.

Served refrigerator cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a healthy two finger beige head of nice soft cream and nice thickness. Retention is above average. Body colour is a semitransparent copper. No yeast particles are visible. No carbonation bubbles. No bubble show. Looks alright for the style, though it's not ideal.

Sm: Wheat, floral hops, and mild indistinct vague spicing. Pale malts. Buttery qualities. Some butterscotch. Not a great aroma considering the style. Moderate in strength.

T: Malty sweetness - pale malts, biscuit malt, some amber malt. Muted floral hops. Light toffee. Fairly balanced but lacking in complexity and subtlety. If spicing is present, it's vague and indistinct.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Slightly coarse to coax the flavours out. Too thick. Slightly overcarbonated. Doesn't feel tailored to the flavours, but it suits them alright.

Dr: Drinkable. A decent saison, but far from exemplary. I might try it on-draught, but it's not fantastic. A decent effort from Left Coast, but I've had far better. Hides its ABV well. Not a fantastic saison by any means. There's just not enough spicing, let alone enough pepper.
