Review: 710 mL can
Chain pours a honey golden pour with NO head whatsoever, not even right after it is poured. I first thought it was totally flat but I guess after reading other reviews, that is how it is poured.

I can say it is a light watery 5.5 % beer, very easy to drink or getting drunk. The taste is not to bad, sweet, bitter, but corny. For $2.50 a beer for a 710mL its a steal, but I must say I believe TIMBER BEER DARK BEER and RED STEELBACK are better choices for the price.
Steelback produces a solid product for the price, I rate it above Laker and on par with Lakeport. If anything, Steelback should get rid of plastic bottles, it looks cheap and ruins the taste....who brings a plastic bottle to a party or in a club??...Steelback wake up!!!

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue VI:

Vague mentions of "European Lager" and "Premium Canadian Beer" seem like lame attempts at marketing but we all know not to judge a beer by its label. Right?

Crystal clear pale amber color, the head is surprisingly all over the glass and with each sip leaves a ring of lace. The aroma is grainy with some cooked corn DMS from the malt and some clean cereal snap in the back of the nose. Smooth and crisp with a semi-light body, crispness has a nice bite to it. Wet maltiness comes across grainy and a little weak. Hop bitterness is one dimensional, no flavor at all. Slight husk and cooked cereal middle to end with a dry finish.

Our taste buds have quickly come to the realization that this is a simple lager, or perhaps a cheap European Lager. How about we just call it a "bargain beer" in the generic sense.

Hard to believe but this is a new improved product. Comes in a 710 ml tub can...label shrink wrapped on the can like on the previous plastic bottle .

Still pours a clear dark yellow...tall white fluffy cap disappears quickly some lacing...still has fizzy soda-like carbonation.

Aroma just screams "adjuncts"... funky sweet corn smell predominates and alcohol.

Mouth feel is fizzy and watery ... one dimensional sweet, corny-grainy character and the finish is still raw...harsh with alcohol tones....still tastes like green beer...unaged...kind of like Labatt wildcat.

I bought this from the beer store as an act of good will to re-rate these beers after the Owner and his brew master appealed to the craft beer patronizing community stating the process and beer had changed.

This is the second beer I have re rated that has not significantly changed except to rid itself of the off tastes infected yeast or equipment put in the beer the last time I tried it. The heading has improved but it does not last it appears to be the result of a heading adjuct.

This beer tastes grainy but unaged, raw in the finish and the flavor still tastes like there are adjuncts....as the beer warmed this became more apparent..that was a improvement I will admit that made me believe this beer is primarily malt...it is palatable when warm.

Conclusion: this is a fast cheap commercial lager not particularly well constructed but at least it's clean and can take its place in the discount beer bin.

Questionable... Pours out to a rich yellow color with a short lived white head that bubbles down to nothing. Aromas of sweet corn and cheap malt. Taste is far too sweet. This must be Canada's candy beer for teenie-boppers. Flavors of sugary grains and corn with a trace of weak hops. Mouthfeel was like thick water. Yuck. Drinkability is not impressive. Look for something else. Anything else.

They advertise this as a European style lager. So much for truth in advertising. My sample was a 710 ml can that came with a shrink wrap plastic label. The label is the only good thing about this beer.
The appearance is light amber, like fortified urine. The minimum carbonation gave only a small head (I poured gently) that dissipated in less than a minute. The smell was sweetish, with overtones of corn or grass. Reminds me of cow corn.
Taste was watery with only a bit of fizz. Weak. Minimal flavour. Hops are barely noticeable. In no way compares with a European lager. The mouthfeel was just wet. Slight bitter aftertaste did not linger.
Drinkability: Don't drink it. It is like the lowest end of the US mass produced generic bargain basement stuff.
I don't know any bars that sell Steelback beer, and it's a good thing too. They would be laughed out of business.
I have tried most of the their products, just in the off chance thay they may have done something right, but have yet to find a decent beer in their lineup. They are an embarrasment to the Canadian brewing industry.

Never before have I seen a beer pour like this before. It poured all head, only to turn to urine three seconds afterwards. Just one big WHOOSH and the foam is gone. No head, no lace, pee yellow. I wonder where this is going. Smells sickly sweet with corn. Their is a bit of malt, but not much. Tastes like Busch. Corny and sweet. Cheap and poorly made. Mouthfeel was overcarbonated. Do not drink. Not even worth a decent review.
