On tap at Red Car Brewery in Torrance, CA.

Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest. Taste is much the same with a citrus zest flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some solid aromas and flavors.

Appearance: Hazy, light amber color. Thick creamy head. Good lacing.

Smell: English hops are nice but more subtle than the west coast IPAs that I am used to. Nice sweet aroma from the malt.

Taste: Nice tart bitterness and citrus flavor from the hops. Stronger than I expected from the smell. Good balance.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation and a nice medium body.

Overall: A nice beer but not something that I would go out of my way for.

Appearance: Beyond hazy. Appearance is very muddy; an opaque yellow/orange.

Smell: Dull citrus.

Taste: Muddled hops. No layers to speak of. No malt.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied.

Overall: A dull IPA that's not even fun to look at. If an IPA is hazy, I'd at least hop for a punch of dry-hopped aromatics - but there's nothing there. The best word I can think of here is 'muddy'. At least they make a killer French dip sandwich.

Served on tap at the brewpub in a 20oz schooner glass.
A: Orange/amber color with a light head and plentiful carbonation
S: Citrus, malt and hops
T: Both the hops and malt are most prevalent with a note of citrus/orange
M: Pronounced hop bite, but not as strong as many IPAs
O: A classic IPA at a good local brewpub

Tasted May 8th 2011 (from notes)

A - swampy, golden/amber/copper, one finger off white head and some crazy lacing

S - alcohol, flowers, bananas, citrus, pine needles, toasted/sweet malt, wheat, yeasty, pungent and a bit sour

T - alcohol, sour, yeast, wheat, sweet malt, toasted, grass, orange, lime, tropical fruits and flowers, soap and something I can't put my finger on

M - sticky, medium acidity, long finish. Big hops and bigger malt

D - drinks like any awesome ipa...awesome! Wish this was bottled and distributed. But, love that I can get a growled whenever I want

Final thought - if you have not had this and you like hops and or malts, you need to try this

Pours an unfiltered, orange-amber color with considerable haze. Head is off white with good lacing.

Aroma is nice, but not anything out of the ordinary. There is a basic fruitiness, as well as citrusy hops and toasty malts. The flavor is balanced, with moderate hops and a nice, full fruitiness. The toasty malt character is back, adding some malt depth. It could use some more bitterness and hop flavor.

Mouthfeel is light bodied, while retaining good malt character and depth. I could have used some more hops for my first IPA on the West Coast, but I liked this enough and would have more (no way the ABV is 9%.)

IPA? You got to be kidding me. It smelled and tasted like a red ale. No hoppiness whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I asked the waitress if she had made a mistake and served me the red ale. Ordered their sampler of brews and they all tasted the same: sour and very below average. The only difference between the beers was their porter. Same sour flavor with a bit of smokiness.

Never again.

This is one of my favorite fresh IPA's that exist today. I have enjoyed it on tap more times than I can count and out of a growler numerous times as well.

The appearance is classic unfiltered! What more need be said. Nice quarter inch foam on top that dissipates in a few minutes.

The smell is terrific. Yes it does have citrus overtones and a sweet hoppy aroma. It's almost perfect!

Taste is PERFECT! Smooth, rich and hoppy with a brilliant back end finish that lingers perfectly on the tongue.

Mouthfeel = perfect and balanced

Drinkability is outstanding. It actually goes down to easily and one must pace themselves or have someone else drive you home. It is a good problem to experience.

This owner of this fine establishment is also the brewmaster and he has perfected this IPA in my opinion. Bravo! Get to this jewel of a brewery soon. You will not regret it.
