64oz Growler, bottled the day before and served into several Pint Glasses

A – Poured a very thick looking hazy caramel color brown with a nice two finger head of tan colored lace on top. Very nice slow recession left behind lots of concentric rings of side glass lace. Very impressive looking.

S – Aroma was very sweet, interesting for a harvest ale this seemed to have a big focus on malts and sugars. There was definitely a hoppy tone in there, it was just well hidden. When it did peek through it was a dark sweet hoppiness. Lots of smells of caramel and almost a roasted nuttiness.

T – The flavor was very rich and full. The caramel and sweet notes were really very much present here and were by far and away the dominant force in this one. There was almost a sweet oatmeal or lactose sugar flavor to this, very rich. The hoppiness of it was very dark and sweet, with some nice pine resin flavors making up the back. Robust flavor without even the slightest hint of being watered down. This was definitely nice. Not even a hint of the ABV was present in the taste, very mellow and relaxed flavor, quite unique.

M – Medium bodied ale with a bit of graininess to it. This had a silky like feel to it and really a great follow through. The carbonation stayed around throughout and really allowed the flavor to explore and roll around in your mouth. Very nice finish, not too dry but a very long lasting.

D – Very nice here. I actually finished the whole thing over the course of the day, which was actually easy to do as it was full of flavor and a very easy drinker. Never really got sick of the flavor at all, could have had another by the time I was done,

Overall this was a very interesting and unique ale. It was sort of a mish mash of a brown ale and a light porter, but with some of the flavors of an oatmeal porter. Very nice indeed. This is one of the better harvest ales I have had that tend to shy away from the deep mouth ripping hops but rather rely on a more balanced approach that let you see some of the more unique flavors. I really liked this and would have to defiantly recommend it to anyone.

Served from tap into a shaker. Poured a deep red-orange with a minimal off-white head. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt and an earthy note. The flavor was of sweet malt, earthy, and subtle earthy hops. It had a light feel on the palate with low-mild carbonation. Overall this was a pretty nice brew. It was very light on the aroma and hard to pick up on anything. The flavor was full of the typical earthy notes that Pisgah is known for. This one is a must try if you have the opportunity.

On-tap.

Pours a hazy golden-copper color with a half-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of muted pale malts with hints of leafy and slightly earthy hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Grainy pale malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by solid amounts of leafy hop flavors. Midway through the sip hints of light citrus flavors work their way into things before fading out into a moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall I have to imagine that this keg had been sitting around for a while as the hops just didn't taste as though they were all there. An easy-drinking beer but one not worth seeking out.

A-Slightly hazed deep dark copper with a thin off-white head that reduces to a thin ring and leaves spotty lace,

S-Sweet caramel malts with backing citrus notes and a bit of spiciness.

T-Sweet caramel malts hit first then quickly backed by a nice pop of citrus hops. Semi-dry finish.

M-Medium bodied with mild sweetness and lingering bitterness.

D-Certainly good but does not carry the flavour profile in a brew that clocks in at 7.5% ABV. Not my favorite Pisgah offering but might please somebody that is more into malt forward brews.

Growler shared by Ding at the Brick Store with the usual crowd.

Pours a hazy brownish amber with a big creamy white head that shows good lacing.

The aroma is interesting and dominated by the toasted malts with some caramel thrown in. The hops are there in the nose but really just in a supporting role. Definitely not the nose of an APA.

The taste follows the aroma and has plenty of caramel malt sweetness and some floral hops that are more prevalent in the bitter finish than up front. The taste has an overall dry and slightly toasted character.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth and a bit crisp in the finish.

This is not one of my favorite Pisgah brews but it's certainly drinkable despite not having a ton of complexity. Good but not great.

Growler from jraycee for growling at the moon. Thanks!

A:Really nice cross between a deep brown and an amber color. A finger of slightly brownish head with great lacing.

S: A weird but nice nose. Very nice clean malt. A touch of some fruit as well. Almost like a brown dubbel mix.

T: Really nice clean taste. The malt is isolated nicely. The hops are in the back the whole time but really do not shine through till the finish and even then it is hard to describe.

M: Medium body. Well carbonated for a growler pour.

D: Very easy drinking. At over 7 percent not something I would session but a damn fine easy drinking beer. I am stumped on the style as well so lets just call it good.

Thanks Ding for the growler!

Pours a beautiful reddish brown that is quite hazy. An off white head quickly dissipates. Smells of fruits and bready yeast. First sip is pure maltyness, that is caramel sweet then quickly bitter to the finish. There's plenty of citrusy hops here that scream, "I am not an APA!" The 7.5% ABV is very well hidden.

Finally made it out west on spring break this week and picked up a growler of this Pisgah brew that I had knocked back at Ed B's BBQ the night before quite easily. I was quite surprised to see this labeled on the site as an APA as I had noted its malt profile last night.

The color is also unlike my expectation of the style, with a dark rust maroon hue and and a dark tan head and lace. The nose is spicy (cinnamon and clove?) and sweet malt. There is also an underlying yeasty tone to the aroma.

The taste is broad and malty up front with notes of honey and alcohol. The hops kick in with balancing bitterness and follow through to the aftertaste. The texture is light but strong enough to carry the flavor and abv.

Well made, badly classified by style. I could be happy drinking this for quite some time.

Notes from a December Pisgah tasting.

"Amber harvest ale." 7.5% ABV. A mild nose that for some reason made me think of bubblegum -- but on the tongue it was anything but! A nice raisiny quality, with a lot more besides. It was superb with a cube of sharp cheddar, and I wrote to myself to try this with winter soup.

S- Roasted malts and grains, a little sweet. Clean and crisp.

T-Comes through with the roasted malts and grains, slight bitterness. No real alcohol warmth.

M- Smooth, interupted by crisp bubbles.

D- This is a very easy drinkable beer.
