look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a lush, creamy off-white head.

Smell: Roasted malt aroma with hints of cream and licorice. All fairly light, mind you.

Taste: Mild sweetness amidst the flavor of roasted malts. Subtle hint of licorice. A bit of that black patent char thrown in as well, but not enough to make a face over. Finishes roasty and dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Strikingly soft mouthfeel.

Drinkability: Highly quaffable, if you're into the dry stouts.

On tap at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge in Asheville,NC.Poured jet black with a cascading creamy tan colored head,Iam a sucker for a good nitro pour, creamy looking goodness.Roasty aromas with a tinge of bitter chocolate, and coffee.Mouthfeel is a bit light going down,to me this is an Irish dry stout hands down, uber roasty, with big coffee flavors, light bitter chocolate, and a tinny flavor in the finish. It went great with a Highland Black Mocha Stout cake,a nice beer under the wrong category I think.

nitro stout on tap at Pisgah Brewery.

A - black with a creamy tab head. Looks like a model for the style.

Aroma - pleasant but light and fairly simple aroma of dark roasted malt.

T - plenty of dark roasted malt flavor with a touch of hops. There's a bit of burnt grain and smokiness too. Mildly bitter and slightly sour. There is a hint of coffee in the slightly dry finish.

M - creamy smooth, with a rather light body (like Guinness).

O - more flavorful American version of an Irish stout.

On nitro-tap at Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria (Asheville, NC) on 4/17/09. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a dark brown/black, with a good bit of garnet hues shining through the bottom and sides, and a 1/2 finger of rigid creamy mocha tan head. Retains with a classic nitro look, meaning a head that doesn't quit, coupled with massive coating lace. The aroma is quite lively with roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee dominating up front, quickly being followed by notes of caramel and floral hops in the back. Most pleasant.

The taste is just as flavorful as the aroma was. A silky and mellow mix of chocolate and caramel malt sweetness with roast and coffee adding needed balance and a toasty punch to the profile. The mouthfeel is overall medium bodied feeling but the carbonation is so silky and creamy, this just goes down as easy as can be. This literally just efforlessly flows down the throat from the nitro.

Very nice! A full flavored roasty Stout with incredible drinkibility from the nitro-pour. That's all it takes to please me! I could have drank this all day.

Served from nitro-tap into a sampler shaker. Poured pitch black with a hint of brown with a one finger off-white (slightly light tan) head. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, cream, coffee, and caramel. The flavor was of roasted malt, cream, coffee, and slight dark chocolate. It had a light feel on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this one was very surprising to me. It had really nice flavors to it, but it seemed like they were very weak. Just wish they were more pronounced to allow this one to shine through. This one is definitely worth having if you find it.

Served on-tap in a pint glass.

The appearance was a dark chocolate color with a mocha colored creamy head that last through out the entire glass.

It smelled of coffee and roasted malt.

The taste and feel of the beer was very good. Rich and creamy, yet sweet. The roasted malt was the dominate taste with just that hint of sweetness. This is a full bodied beer that had a very good feel to it. Very smooth, yet thick like a good stout should be.

Overall, the beer is very drinkable and possibly one of the best stouts that I have ever had to date. Highly recommended.

Nitro-tap. Very dark brown pour that starts out as a sea of creamy tan bubbles. Finally rounds out to a nice tan head on a used motor oil colored brew. Smell of some smoke, roast malt and hints of coffee and cocoa. Taste is a mellow melding of the aromas. Everything very blananced. Like a much improved version of Guiness. Pretty clean coffee, dry finish. Very smooth, very drinkable, but I thought the aromas and flavors were a bit more subdued than I would have liked. Pisgah makes good brews that are always worthy of trying.

Ok now you really cannot go wrong with these guys and this only goes to prove it. This is a wonderful dry stout. Appearence is perfect, cascading down were thousands of bubbles forming a thick curtain of caramel chocolate. A great dry filling taste. Loads of sweetness to it. This simply could not be beat. Had the feeling of a milkshake, and the taste was just great. Loads of caramel and a super dry finish, light chocolate flavor with a touch of cookie dough maybe, it was just great. I am glad to see them setup for the area beer fests with this, should be perfect! Get this if you can it is outstanding.

On nitro-tap at Duckworths in Charlotte, served in a pint glass

The beer is very dark, alomost black with a ton of tight bubbles creating that beautiful cascade effect. About a fingers worth of dense, tan, creamy head that seems to coat the glass as it goes down.

The nose is light and mild with roasted malts, coffee, and just the slightest hint of chocolate. As the beer warms the aroma gets just slightly sweeter, and the hops become just barely noticable for the first time.

The flavor is roasted malts and coffee with a very faint hint of chocolate. It's medium bodied, with a creamy, silky smooth mouthfeel. The beer finishes very dry and is extremely drinkable.

Overall this is a really nice dry stout. Really drinkable and full of flavor.

On-tap at the brewery as part of a flight.

Very dark brown that lets very little light through, fun to watch nitro action. Creamy tan-colored head that leaves lots of creamy cling behind. Normal roasted malt profile in smell and taste. Taste is a bit watery and nitro gives it a creamy flatness.

Above average nitro stout.
