Pisgah Nitro Stout, on tap at the Pisgah Tasting Room, Black Mountain, NC, 12/30/08. Served in a traditional American pint glass.

Appearance: A gorgeous creamy nitro head - coming off as off-white at some glances and orangey-tan at others, and regardless of the hue with amazing retention - on a dark, solid, deep-brown body. The head leaves huge, sticky nitro lacing as it recedes. I gotta give it the traditional -0.5 nitrotap reduction, though.

Aroma: Coffee and chocolate, with more chocolate coming through than in the porter - more of a 1:1 ration here. Very earthy, and perhaps not as pungent as I'd like (lots of good aromas buried under that nitro cap, I'm assuming). Grows more pungent and richly earthy as it warms.

Taste: Smooth and even, with plenty of deep, earthy, French roast coffee, hints of smoke and dirt, and a handful of milky, creamy, sweet cocoa. This one's very deep and earthy though, in a pleasant way, though.

Mouthfeel: Traditional nitrotap smoothness, creamy and even, but this one could even benefit from slightly more carbonation, in my opinion.

Drinkability: Another great beer from Pisgah, flavorful and enjoyable, with no hint of alcohol. Wouldn't mind enjoying this one not on nitrotap to compare - it seems like there's a really solid brew underneath this. Recommended.

Served on-tap in a pint glass.

The appearance was a dark chocolate color with a mocha colored creamy head that last through out the entire glass.

It smelled of coffee and roasted malt.

The taste and feel of the beer was very good. Rich and creamy, yet sweet. The roasted malt was the dominate taste with just that hint of sweetness. This is a full bodied beer that had a very good feel to it. Very smooth, yet thick like a good stout should be.

Overall, the beer is very drinkable and possibly one of the best stouts that I have ever had to date. Highly recommended.

Appearance: Arrives at the bar with a brown color that is as dark as it can be without being black; it has that nitro head that looks like whipped cream and literally sheets the pint glass as it goes down

Smell: Coffee aromatics

Taste: Black bread up front followed by mocha after the swallow; rich and somewhat fruity, with a dry finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with a creamy texture; low carbonation

Drinkability: Nearly perfect for the style

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a lush, creamy off-white head.

Smell: Roasted malt aroma with hints of cream and licorice. All fairly light, mind you.

Taste: Mild sweetness amidst the flavor of roasted malts. Subtle hint of licorice. A bit of that black patent char thrown in as well, but not enough to make a face over. Finishes roasty and dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Strikingly soft mouthfeel.

Drinkability: Highly quaffable, if you're into the dry stouts.

Ok now you really cannot go wrong with these guys and this only goes to prove it. This is a wonderful dry stout. Appearence is perfect, cascading down were thousands of bubbles forming a thick curtain of caramel chocolate. A great dry filling taste. Loads of sweetness to it. This simply could not be beat. Had the feeling of a milkshake, and the taste was just great. Loads of caramel and a super dry finish, light chocolate flavor with a touch of cookie dough maybe, it was just great. I am glad to see them setup for the area beer fests with this, should be perfect! Get this if you can it is outstanding.
