This robust Coffee Stout is a mouthful of flavor! A dark, roasty grain bill stands as the backdrop for a galaxy of coffee aroma and flavor, made possible by local organic bean roasters Dynamite Roastery. A Pisgah fan favorite, Valdez is brewed bi-annually and never lasts as long as the flavor.

Dispensed via growler on 9/28/09. Thanks to Deuane for procuring this for me during a recent trip to Asheville, NC.
A - This stout is one shade away from plummeting into the void of utter darkness. A thin, tan cap sits on top, but dispersed into a wispy veil that eventually disappeared, leaving behind only spots of lace.
S - Freshly ground coffee beans. Pure and simple. As Valdez warmed up, hints of tobacco and subtle leafy hop notes also emerged. Some chocolate and tar-like gunk (in a good way) also creeped out from underneath the coffee beans. For some strange reason, I also got a subtle waft of garage. Yes, garage.
T - Again, coffee dominates with an iced coffee character and abumdance of roasty flavor. Subtle hints of chocolate, tar and tobacco also emerge, but this stout is all about that little dark brown bean.
M - Medium bodied with an icy, watery texture, a little thin perhaps, and very softly carbonated. Finishes with coffee bitterness and mild astringency on the palate.
D - Juan would be proud that this fine coffee stout shares his namesake. Of course, maybe he doesn't drink beer. Well, he does now! This is some serious competition for Planet Bean. Never heard of it? Seek it out!

I love coffee beers and this is the coffeest coffee beer I’ve ever had. Aroma is of quality fresh coffee on the morning. Flavor is coffee. Big bold French Roast coffee flavor. The deliciousness of the coffee flavor lingers with the after taste. Thank God, bc I don’t want this flavor to ever leave my mouth.

Received as an extra in a trade. Pours dark brown with a finger of mocha head. Nose is full of espresso, chocolate, slight roast, and toffee. Well rounded taste....sweet mocha, bitter chocolate, and a touch of vanilla. Body is medium with low carbs. Pleasantly surprised by this coffee stout....
