On tap at Mac's Speed Shop (Steele Creek). Gorgeous deep brown to black in the glass, nearly opaque with a shimmer of ruby and subtle visible carbonation. Hint of roasted malt in the nose. Taste is at first roasted malt then subtle bitterness that rounds to a refreshingly balanced coffee/nut flavor and finishes very cleanly. Coupled with a light body and perfect carbonation, this one really quenches. Could be an easy session beer. Loved it.

A - In a pint glass, this brew is almost black. Like many dunkel styles, it doesn't pour with much head.

S - The aroma is indeed lighter than what I am used to, but there are hints of caramel, toffee and roast.

T - This thing tastes incredible. The roasted malts come out immediately, along with a perfectly blended molasses aftertaste.

M - Silky smooth, much lighter on the palate than one would expect from the dark color. Body is light and clean.

D - If this was more readily available in my area, I would probably drink it as a regular. Drinkability is extremely high on the scale. Just like every other Pisgah style I've had, this one is near the top of my list for a Dunkel/Schwartzbier.

Was able to grab a sample at the brewery, loving all these new German ales coming out.

Pours dark, dark brown, nearly black with a light head that fades fairly quickly but nice lacing which is always present in a good Pisgah beer then takes over. Aroma is lighter then what I had hoped, light roast, tobacco aroma. Hints of burnt campfire notes. Smooth, effortless taste here. Rich dark malts, roasted to near perfection bring out a subtle smokey flavor and rich roasted molasses like touch that are sublime. Body is light, clean, crisp. A smooth and easy finish leaves me happy and looking for more.

Overall a very nice example of the style. Really very drinkable and not as heavy as I have seen others go with this. I could kill a growler and be no worse for ware.

A-Deep, blackish brown with a thin, light tan head that held on well and left spotty lace.

S-Light roasted malt and a touch of earth hops.

T-Light roasted malt, a touch of anise and a finish of earthy hops in a drying finish.

M-Medium-light bodied sharp and crisp. Very clean...just like a good schwarzbier should be.

D-Nice, straight forward and to the point. A simple, easy drinking dark lager. Not hard to put down a few of these.

Tap at Mac's on Sandy Porter. Dark brown pour, not quite black, could have been a bit darker. The normal minimal off white head. Stays as kind of a whispy layer and leaves that on the glass as well.

Aroma is toasted malt, peat, that lager yeast. Just a hint of chocolate or cocoa.

Taste has a little more caramel than chocolate, with peat and leather. Finishes with a lager-y and slightly toasted malt. Everything present was very desireable, just wish there was more of it. Fairly typical for an organic though.

Heavy side of light body. Just a bit thin, but that helps the drinkability even more. Just lively enough to keep it from being creamy. No alcohol, I'm sure the abv is low anyway.
Could drink a sixpack worth of this easy.

Another good offering from the best organic brewer I've tried thus far.

Had during an afternoon ticking session at Pisgah! Served from tap into a shaker pint. Poured a dark yellow-orange brown with a half finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount very quickly. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, earth, and cream. The flavor was of sweet malt, nutmeg, dark chocolate, roasted malt, earth, and cream. It had a medium feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty nice brew. Definitely had a nice flavor profile going on in this one. The usual earthy aspect shows up in this one as well but blended very nicely with all of the roasty and sweet notes in this one. The aroma left a little to be desired, but you can't win them all I suppose. Definitely worth trying if you have the opportunity.
