a: Not very dopplebock looking, medium lager look hints of carmel

s: hints of hops and somehting sweet.

t: Not really what I expected from dopplebock. It was a little sweet but not great.

m: it was very thin and had a bit of a hop like aftertaste

o: I cant believe this was dobblebock? It was closers to a traditional bock with a higher alcohol content. Many great German versions of doppels are easily available, try one of them over this one.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

The appearance is a bit light for the style, but that could just be the clarity of the beer letting in light. Pours a very clear, medium to dark brown...not quite cola dark, but too strong for tea. The head cascades while forming and ends up several fingers thick before it starts a long retention period. Thick, frothy, white head with little to no lace.

You have to really get your nose deep in the glass and when you do, you're welcomed by a dose of caramel. Toffee notes are there, as well as a tiny bit of vanilla.

Very malty with some bread crust thrown in to cut the sweetness. The caramel is prevalent with a yeasty, crackerlike finish. Hops aren't noticeable.

Not as creamy a feel as some German versions, but still pretty smooth. Sweetness up front and there's little segue as the beer moves across the palate. It's sweetness for a second, then an earthiness takes over with gentle rye spicing. Body is fuller than the look would lead you to believe and there's just enough to sink your teeth into. The finish brings back some sweetness, reminiscent of fruit cake.

This is an easy drinker. While nothing really sticks out, there are no faults with this beer. It's a solid example of the style.
