Corked and caged 750mL bottle. Poured into a Franziskaner hefeweiss glass at approximately 61F. This poured a crystal clear golden straw colour like a pilsner with an enormous white head that faded away in about 2 minutes. Smell was a cross between something like Beck's and a Riesling. I don't really like the smell of beer like Beck's and so forth, but I really didn't know what to expect and I have never had another Bière de Champagne with which to compare this one. Taste was very mildly sweet up front with some definite white wine qualities, but turns pleasantly (lightly) bitter toward the finish. Mouthfeel was very smooth and nearly bereft of any CO2 "sting". Also, as mentioned in other reviews, this drinks way below the 8,0%abv displayed on the label. You could get in trouble with this quickly if you aren't careful! Not my favourite beer or beer style, but certainly interesting and I am very glad I tried it.

Don't remember who brought this gem, but awesome: a champagne malt liquor. Served in a taster pint glass.

A - Ample white foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and splotches of lace. Lightly hazed golden body with plenty of visible bubbles.

S - Smells like a malt liquor alright; grain, alcohol, white grapes, corn. Might be confused for very poor champagne I suppose. Gets a bit cloying as it warms up.

T - The taste is again very much malt liquor-esque, but on the good side of the style. There's actually some pilsner malt among the various adjunct flavors. There aren't any fusel flavors, but I wasn't expecting much of that at only 8%.

M - Medium-full body, surprisingly smooth texture, lower carbonation, and reasonably well-hidden alcohol. It's a tad too sticky for a champagne beer, but otherwise not too bad.

D - Could use more spritz and dryness for the style, but good if you take it as a malt liquor. Still, it's overpriced at $11.99 relative to some superior offerings that are available for a tenth of the price.

A: Pours a cloudy dark golden orange in color. The beer has almost no head whatsoever, just a handful of small bubbles that reduces to absolutely nothing in short order. No lacing is observed.

S: Light amounts of sweet malts (toffee) and light fruit (apple).

T: Quite a bit of malty sweetness with toffee being the dominant element. Slight amounts of apple/pear light fruit sweetness as well.

M: Light to medium bodied with light amounts of carbonation (almost none).

O: Very strange example of the style as there is so little carbonation (which is not what I have observed with others in the style or would have expected). Not super easy to drink due the sweetness - definitely not sessionable for me. Alcohol is pretty well hidden.

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color with some hints of brown. It poured with just a few large bubbles on the surface that quickly dissipated.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of malty sweetness and toffee in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the overall taste has flavors of malty sweetness with some notes of toffee and apple cider.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a low amount of carbonation.
O: This is a very unusual bière de champagne that doesn’t seem to be very carbonated. It’s not that difficult to drink because the alcohol is well hidden from the taste.

thanks sean!

brought home from england, labeled as "Cobra King". 750ml bottle poured into an imperial pint glass.

very carbonated. pours out a cloudy light golden color. really had to pour carefully, and wait. the first pour yielded more head than beer. billowy, soapy egg white colored head has some great retention and great lacing. if champagne had a head, it would look like this.

some belgian like yeasty notes, maybe a touch of bubblegum. as it warms it really takes on a adjuncty lager like malt sweetness. slight fruits.

lots of sweet ricey grain, adjunct lager like, almost like imperial budweiser with a hint of belgian yeast. some bubblegum and fruity esters.

lots of high carbonation, but it settles as the beers warms. medium to light in body.

IMO, its better than Infinium, but i didnt really enjoy either. this came off a little too sweet and somewhat malt liquer like.

Sold in the UK as 'King Cobra', it costs £6.75 for the regular 0.75 Litre bottle at one of my local Indian restuarants (about $10.00).

The two 0.75L Cork and Caged bottles from last night were poured into four champagne flutes and topped up fairly often as we drank our way down the bottles.

Light, lemony yellow with a slight haze, especially at the lower end of the bottle (no bits, but obviously some light sediment is in the base of the bottles. Lively head in the pour, but no staying power.

The smell is of Belgian yeasts, interesting but not strong.

The beer is really a strong lager in taste and feel, I like it and for the price is good value. Not sure it is in the correct style cat, but it isn't a bad beer at all.

750ml bottle, corked and caged. "Crafted in Belgium" "Champagne Lager".

Pours a pineapple/pee colored yellow ithe a big foamy white head that sticks for awhile and leaves some lacing.

It smells fruity and oaky, very champagne like. It also had some hops and bready malts.

The mouthfeel is light and lightly carbonated. It isn't too dry. It has again alot of fruits, honey and basic malts.

It is a decent beer though perhaps not worth the price.

A caged/corked 375 ml bottle, picked up several weeks back at John's Market. Poured to a champagne flute after a shitty Tuesday, one with too much work and more bad news (that wasn't so unexpected).

A: Clear, but not perfectly so. Bubbly, but not abundantly so. A slim, filmy head of snowy whiteness atop a golden brew. No lace, no real drama.

S: A fruity apple/pear kind of crispness in the nose. The warmer it gets, the stronger it grows; yeasty and sweet, yet not too over-the-top.

T: Orange, melon, a trace of raisin and spice. Malty though and through, sweet cereal. Spices (Belgian?) and a lingering dryness. Sweet and a little candied. It's funny but the wife said: "it's like Miller High Life"...ya' know 'the Champagne of Beers'. I can see that...

M: Clean, light and crisp. Not terribly fizzy - don't know whether that's intentional or the signs of age (no dating on the packaging).

D: Easy enough to drink...well, sip. Can't think of many times I've tried a beer of this style; it's certainly interesting, albeit one to nurse rather than have multiple glasses of. Give it a try! (but not one I have to go back to...)

edit: wow, first review for the style!

A: Light gold in color, nice firm pillow white head.

S: Light slightly viscous, no hop presence, mild and somewhat lacking.

T: Malt liquor, grainy, alcohol, lacking in depth.

M: Sticky, alcohol, permeates in the back of the throat.

D: Crisp clean nice.

Would pass on it in the future.

Well. This is a singularly underwhelming beer. The bottle says brewed in Belgium v. the Polish version listed here. Poured with an ok white head and a bit of lace. Straw yellow color. With the full head picked up a pleasant fleeting aroma. Gone now; friends didn't pick it up. Flavor is basically sweet. And that's it. Body and carbonation is ok. Finsih is uh, yeah. Forgettable beer.

The bottle I purchased listed Palm Breweries in Steenhuffel, Belgium as the brewer and not Cobra. There is the sweet lager yeast aroma of bread and typical european maltiness. The color is pale golden. The mouthfeel has more body than I expected for a lager and is about medium in feel. The taste is of malt and carbonation, you can see the bubbles in the glass like champagne. The finsh is a little syrupy and you can feel the carbonation as the beer goes down. It does do a great job of hiding the 8% abv.

Courtesy of njdhopgrower and edbeer. 750ml bottle served in a champagne flute. Poured a hazy, golden yellow with a one inch bright white head that quickly recedes - no lacing on this one. Nose was grassy, lemony and a little biscuity at the finish - very mild and muted. Taste was very light fruit, some yeast, candi sugar and cereal grains revealed towards the back. Mouthfeeel was light-bodied with champagne-like effervescence; a little prickly - finishes dry and clean. Interesting brew - well-hidden abv. I enjoyed the opportunity to try this one, but not a go to beer. A great alternative to champagne however.

Sweet and fizzy. That about sums up this beer. The Queen's malt liquor, for discriminating tastes...

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Hazed gold, initial burst of foam in the soap suds sense. The flaccid, weak head sticks around for a few minutes, then disappears. Sweet grains and corn in the nose. More of the same in the flavor. Dusty bubblegum and pilsner malt, with a prickly dose of sugar. Moderate to excessive C02. Fizzy lager to the Nth degree, with a strong hit of old pear fruit roll-up. Basically a bottom-of-the-barrel Duvel knockoff with an antacid in the mix...this is weak sauce.
