Had this great beer on a recent trip to Rio De Janeiro. Had it in an ice cold can as well as an ice cold draft (choppe as they call it). Ice cold is the only way beer will be served to you in Brazil. It was brought to my beach chair for only 2 Reais (roughly 95 cents U.S.) Smooth and refreshing without tasting like a light beer. Kinda reminds me of a Busch beer but with a better taste. Now before you go and write off this review because of the Busch reference, imagine yourself on Ipanema Beach surrounded by literally hundreds and hundreds of Brazilian women with perfect bodies wearing thongs. I think you could enjoy Busch then!! Remember most of the beer consumption in Rio takes place on the beach in 90 plus degree weather so a 6.5% beer is out of the question. Overall a great beer that you should definitely check out if you are in Brazil!

This is a good brazilian beer. It´s currently the bang for the buck beer in Brazil. The owners are the same of the old Bohemia beer, before the Antarctica acquisition.

Very pale, 4,5% ABV, etc, it´s a light beer for drink a lot in a barbecue in a hot day!!!
The bottle beer is better than the can.

This beer is smooth, crisp and light with hardly any aftertaste. Like other reviews had said, perfect beer for a hot day. Was on special at my local liquor store due to large brazilian community in my immediate area. Great summertime brew. Would recommend.

A - The look is average; pale straw hue, fizzy, and topped with a wispy white cap.

s - The aroma is basic, with a slight twist; minerals, sweat and the faintest cinnamon hint.

T - This is basic AAL, but there is a fruit nuance of honeydew or canteloupe which intensifies upon the finish, so it tastes a little bit better than average. Corn is not specifically noted.

M - Light and drinkable lager.

O - This is not a bad example of an AAL, and is a bit better than, say, MGD or High-Life.

The aroma is very light and unimpressive with weak malts and hops. The appearance is pale gold with a thin head. The taste is like the aroma which is not bad at all for the style. It's very inoffensive but that is not enough to say it's good. The palate is typical of the style. Overall this is an average beer.

I had this on tap at the Sheraton Barra in Rio.

Poured clear golden, head gone in seconds. Bubbles can be seen from carbonation.

Smell was average. Taste was average. A completely average beer. All of the typical Brazilian beers have blurred together for me...I can't say much good about this other than it's super easy to drink. Another bland macro beer. Find the Bohemia Weiss or some other crafts if at all humanly possible.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light yellow color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains light caramelized malts, lager yeast and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast and adjuncts followed by a light malt sweetness. There is a decent hops presence for the style that brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, considering the style it’s not a bad alternative but overall it’s typical Euro-FYB.

Itaipava is like any other big macro beer/american adjuct lager. Pours golden clear with good carbontaion that provides an intial froathy white head that dissapates quickly. The smell and taste are bolstered by grain with some hop in an effort to balance the beer. This is a standard no-frills beer. Best drank when sitting on the sandy beaches of Ipanema.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, a hint of corn. Taste is light, a corn presence, a bit of sweetness to it. Feels light in the mouth and is very drinkable. Overall I imagine this would go down easy in the Brazilian sun, but otherwise a mediocre offering.

Hmm, I am starting to realise:-

I am going off American Adjunct Lagers big-time
They all 'taste' the same particularly when served as cold as this one was.
They are everywhere - this in a Brazilian Restaurant.
They are designed to be drunk fast on a hot day - rather than say in an overpriced eatery.

Need I / Can I say any more?

Straight pour from 350ml can to 5oz-ish tumbler; freshness date of October 27, 2012 printed very clearly in black ink on the kick-up underneath the can (“VAL 27/10/12 1407301 2”).

Appearance (3.0): This actually has a surprisingly lively head going for it, rising quickly to about two fingers of bone-white foam that does take its time dying down while little streams of bubbles rush from the bottom to take its place. The body is pale, pale yellow—almost the definition of “straw”—and a couple spots of lace remain on the side of the glass.

Smell (2.0): Faint aroma of barley, some corn (cooked, not fresh), and that’s about it. The scent of fresh water?

Taste (2.0): Following the nose, there’s just not much happening here. Its saving grace is a light, crisp bitterness that offers some sense of refreshment, but the core of the beer itself has a very, very light cooked vegetable flavor and not much else. Imagine drinking an effervescent, ice-cold, mildly crisp version of the water you used to heat up some frozen corn and peas. Except, water it down some. This gets a “2” because there’s nothing outright objectionable about it, and at least it’s kind of crisp.

Mouthfeel (3.5): Believe it or not, not bad. Lightly effervescent, not tingly, dry finish, quenching and incredibly light, and foams nicely going down. Still, nothing out of the ordinary, in any way.

Overall (2.5): Is this a good beer? Not really. Is it terrible? Definitely not. Can you do worse? Yes—you can do far, far worse. Can you do better? Absolutely. If you’re going to drink this, it should be ice-f’ing-cold, the way Brazilians drink their proudly fizzy, yellow beers. “Estupidamente gelada” means “stupidly cold,” and it’s absolutely the way to go for light Brazilian macros like this.

Pale yellow color. Head dissipates quickly. Smells mostly grains other than barley-malt and sometimes metalic, depends on temperature.
Tastes lager with just a small hint of hops and  addition of water. Taste is also not consistent on different temperatures, as it warms up gets a little metalic.
Beer to drink close to freeze temperatures, very refreshing given its lightness and high carbonation. Better than Brahma, which gets the worst of this beer adding some unpleasant sweetnes and funky after taste, though the tap chopp version , specially the dark one tastes much better, probably given its freshness. I guess aging is a killer for those type of pseudo pilseners.

350ml can served in a small chalice.

A: Pours a very pale yellow color forming a small fluffy white head which dissipates quickly leaving no lacings

S: Sweet grains, Lager yeasts and a killer smell of cooked corn

T: Watery and tasteless cheap Lager. In Brazil, this kind of beer is usually served very chill. In fact, it's better if you consume it quickly in this way, because the taste of corn becomes worst as it warms. Sweet grains, metallic, where are the hops?

M: Very watery light body. High carbonation. Water aftertaste :)

O: Completely characterless. I doubt I could distinguish between this "beer" and all the other cheap pseudo-Pilsener Brazilian beers, like Antarctica, Brahma, Skol and etc. They all have the same "taste" and defects
