I had a chance to try Sarara at a Devassa bar and restaurant next to my hotel in Rio this past weekend. It was a very good Hefeweizen and perfect for a warmer evening after a 10K run along the beach of Ipanema. The appearance was a cloudy light yellow with thick Brazilian Chopp head. The scent carried citrus and clove as did the taste. The citrus was more lemony and the clove was very subtle. The mouthfeel was quite good and certainly could have a few. Definitely worth a try when in Brazil.

Devassa´s newest beer to their family is a hefeweizen. About time. It´s also far and away their most expensive draught beer at R$7.90. On-tap at the Copacabana location, on to the beer:

The creamy white head on top the slightly faded wheat field yellow drops away to a thin lace and leaves spotty retention on the glass. It´s aroma is a good one. Pleasant aromas of clove and bubblegum. The taste follows a similar path, though a little lighter in intensity than anticipated. A big burst of lemon knocks out much of the bubblegum. Pretty tart as well. If there´s a knock on this beer, it´s that it´s very light and on the fence of being watery.

Quite good. An enjoyable hefeweizen by Devassa, and a beer that fills the gap nicely in their lineup.
