pretty hoppy american red. pours an attrative auburn red color, darker than i thought, with a one inch white head thats nice and thick. smells quite hoppy, with a dryish red malt backing, not sweet like an amber, but earthy and even a touch woody. flavor is hop forward, west coast style, resiny. this is more flavor in a beer from BJs than any other ive had, save maybe the tatonka stout. plenty of body and bright carbonation. very refreshing. a solid red ale for sure, i like the use of hops here, some are quite bitter, but it balances out well. it felt fairly strong as well, although i did not get the abv of it, i did get a decent buzz.

On tap at Colorado National golf club. Poured to a pint glass.

A - The beer arrived a deep amber color with a thin 1/2 finger slightly off-white head with some retention and minimal lacing.

S - Not a lot of aroma, a hint of the malty sweetness with some caramel malt character. Slight hop aroma with earthy character.

T - Very similar to the nose in that there isn't a lot to report, very average. The malt dominates the palette with the caramel flavors found in the nose. Sweet. Mild bitterness, the hops don't provide much benefit to the flavor at all, if anything the earthy character creates an off-balance beer. Finishes crisp with a lingering bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

O - Mediocre. Glad to have tried it but there are so many other Ambers/Reds out there that blow this beer out of the water that I won't be back. It's not terrible but nothing worth returning to.

On-tap at BJ's Brewhouse in El Paso, TX. Served in a pint glass. The beer is a dark red-amber, decent clarity, nearly no head. Moderate carbonation visible. Smells very malty, caramel and biscuit, maybe even a little honeydew. No hops in the nose.

Tastes fairly sweet. Heavier body than expected for a light, sweet beer. Tastes of biscuit, light toffee, and honey. It has a dry finish with toast and caramel. Almost no hop presence. Decently balanced, but a bit on the sweet side for me.

Would probably beat Killian's in a fistfight. If either of them had, you know, fists.

I much prefer the pale ale and brown ale this place does. Their porter isn't bad. This is one of the weaker offerings, probably on the list so they can line up little shot glasses by lovibond rating on a sampler or something.

This beer has a very clear red color with one finger of off-white head. The aroma was pretty strong and had biscuity malt and caramel aromas. There was no hop aroma at all. The flavor was very bold with the malty biscuit dominating. It is fairly balanced but on the sweet side. It is slighly cloying. It is fairly heavy bodied for a lighter colored beer but it matches the amount of malt. Decent drinkability.

The beer pours an amber color with a thick frothy offwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a mildly malty scent that boasts of pale and crystal malts along with a light hop aroma. The taste is average. It has a musty "red" flavor that is slightly sweet with crystal malts and bitter on the finish. The mouthfeel is average as well. It is a medium/full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a decent red ale. It's a little too sweet and the hops add an off-flavor. Otherwise, not a bad drinker.
