In the land of great pale ales this beer doesn't quite match up. Looks really good but the hops and the body really are not quite there. Sad considering the Queen Nina's Ipa is fantastic. Much better pale ale over at Port Townsend Brewing. Should be better for the style

Purdy looks much like Hop Bomb in its dark saffron color and particulate composition, though it enjoys far greater hop balance. Unfortunately this doesn’t save it from tasting bland. It’s like the taste is trapped in a brown paper bag it just can’t emerge from. On top of that, the beer hangs heavy on the tongue with a haunted aftertaste and strained mouthfeel. Though I don’t know if Purdy is brewed with fresh hops – a definite possibility in October – all the shortcomings of a wet hop ale are here. It is astringent, grassy and tastes choked with chlorophyll. A teabag beer.
