I visited the area while on a road trip in July and decided to pay Matt Maples a visit. I've ordered beer from Liquid Solutions 6 times so far this year, and while one order was lost (before it was shipped - no biggie, and I just reordered) the other 5 arrived quickly, in perfect condition, and each beer has been excellent. Not many online retailers will even ship to Kansas. (don't get me started). Shipping isn't cheap, but is in line with what I've paid elsewhere.
I even use the styrofoam shipping containers I get from Liquid Solutions on my road trips - just pack them into my car and fill them with delicious beer from around the country. The styrofoam protects the beer admirably from the heat of summer while I make quick stops...but I digress.

Matt has an enviable selection of beer for sale, and unfortunately some that aren't for sale - He auctions rare/vintage beers on his web site and it was tough to look at the wall of future auction material and not start offering him $$$.

I picked up some HOTD, Pannepot, Caldera pale ale, and others that slip my mind at the moment. Matt knows his beer and if I had the time I'd have enjoyed staying and talking about beer or further drooling over his collection.

It's too hot in Kansas for me to order beer from Liquid Solutions right now, but I can't wait for it to cool a bit, as I see more stuff I want has shown up since I left! If in the Portland area, why WOULDN'T you stop in here?

I've ordered 4 times from this most "Excellent Beer Palace", the orders all arrived in a jiffy, they were correct, undamaged, and basically trouble free.

Matt and his staff are kind and courteous, and ordering by credit card, is the most convenient way for all concerned, but I have pestered Matt via phone and email, he handles the questions like the true "Beer Professional" he is, as I have said before, "Matt is a Beer Person's, Beer Person".

Prices are quite good, the selection "Fantastic", and shipping always on time, don't think you can ask for more than that. So do yourself a favor if you want some great beers that you've never had, check'em out, you will not be disappointed.

Ordered some Stone products over the phone, and they arrived in special styrofoam beer shipping containers... very nice. The beer was in excellent shape, as was the tulip glass I ordered. Matt is very friendly and knowledgable. A great asset to Beer Advocates everywhere!

I do all my shopping with Liquid Solutions on line cause I live a few states away....Wyoming. Every darn time I order, I get super service, the packaging defies UPS' best attempts at destruction, and the product is always fresh & tasty!

I also appreciate Matt's newsletters informing me of new brews available and returns of brews carried before. I picked up some excellent samples because of this service.

I gotta say, being close enough to the store to visit would be optimal but I'll settle for access to the huge inventory via the web anyday.

i have ordered from liquid solutions three times and was satisfied each and every time. i have had no problem contacting matt by email and he has answered the phone both times i called about my order. the only downside to ordering from them is their proximity to me. it takes a while to get the packages, but it's not been a problem in the past as i can get stuff that would be impossible for me to get or trade for otherwise.

this is one of only two or three places that will ship to mississippi, so a big win there as well.

I meant to go up yesterday, but got lost( I am usless with written directions) and after 2 hours of pointless doddering among rush hour traffic headed home to salem , defeated and down.
Wife got sick after I got home ..so our trip to the coast was cancelled..so once more today Saturday Feb 22 nd set of with better directions. And boy I am glad I did.
The Store is in a small strip mall behind a Karl Juniors burger joint..not very promising territory..but once through the doors a virtual beer paradise greeted my eyes ( as well as some kick ass coffees).
The store was reasonably busy so i waited until I had a chance to talk with the owner , Matt, about chosing several Scottish beers to sample..
Bought some real nice beers and Matt could not have been nicer and more well informred a true beer scholar!
The store also has a good selection of beer glasses and unusual sodapops..
I will be going back again regularlly ..they do tasteings sometimes next ones on Friday March 7th I will try be there.
Once more I highly recommend this store.

How remiss of me not to write of this fine establishment...Matt and the staff run a great concern and Matt cares about his customers -- often writing me a Beermail asking about the distributor of a beer I have just reviewed that he thinks he should stock. Ordering is easy, and the staff (like Lars H.) gets back to you almost immediately if there is a question. Nice selection, reasonable prices, convenient shipping, never had a problem with Liquid Solutions orders. The beers are professionally and efficiently packed as well. Yep, a package from Liquid Solutions at the front desk is like a Christmas present all year round. Cheers to BA Matt Maples and the gang from Tigard!

I’ve ordered beer from Liquid Solutions in the past, so on a recent business trip to Portland I jumped at the chance to visit when I realized it was only a mile from my hotel. It’s located in a western Portland suburb in a strip mall off a busy street. It can be hard to find, so get good directions or call ahead.

Although it’s small, they have a wonderful selection. All of the beer has 1 or 2 bottles on display for you to choose from, but don’t take them. The real stock is kept wonderfully fresh in a large walk in cooler in the back. Dark, cool, and fresh. Amazing selection of west coast beers, and an even more amazing collection of east coast beers. They have Alesmith, Siletz, Deschuette, Alaskan from the west, and a great selection of DFH, Goose Island, and Victory from the east (or Midwest). If this place had Founders and Bells, it would be heaven. Did I forget imports? Really nice selection of Belgians (big feature on Cantillion while I was there), and German beers.

Nice help from the owner. He wanted to make sure I was getting fresh beer, and even opened up a little early so I had time to look around, and still make my flight. Their service when I’ve ordered over the web has been really great too,

Bottom line, if you are in Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, and have the time. Stop by.

I recently recieved my order from Matt and I was blown away with my whole experiance.

I ordered Abyss along with enough beer to fill a full box. All beers I would have no shot at obtaining in my neck of the woods. I had read that Matt was hard to get ahold of but he emailed me with answers to my question in less then 24 hours. My order was correct and perfectly packaged.

The website is easy to navigate and contains some great beers. I love the shopping cart where you can view how your items will be shipped. Very helpful when shipping cost can be a bit much.

I will definatley make more online purchases from LS.

I have just received a beer package that I mail ordered less than a week ago. The beer was very carefully packaged in a way that anything short of a fire or bomb would not hurt the beer. I obtained a beer that I thought I would never get my hands on in a very timely and professional manner.

The beer list on the website is updated daily. I've not heard of any others that update their list daily. The last I checked, there were 573 varieties of beer to choose from. They include such choices from renowned breweries such as: Alaskan, Anchor, Anderson Valley, Ayinger, Bridgeport, Deschutes, Dogfish Head, Full Sail, Hair of Dog, Mad River, New Belgium, North Coast, Ommegang, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, Stone and Unibroue. The choices also include many imports and a wide variety of Belgium Beer.

Unlike another Mail Order service that I used, Belmont Station, you can order singles from Liquid Solutions. The only stipulation is that you order 6 "Bomber" size bottles at a time or 12 "Regular" size bottles at a time (12 ozers). Nothing I can't get over.

The service was very friendly and expedient. I forsee using this service quite a bit in the future.

I have never actually visited Liquid Solutions, but I have ordered from their web site on many occassions. They carry a great selection of beers that we can't get here on the East Coast such as most of the Alaskan beer line. Being able to order Alaskan Smoked Porter is a great thing. I have ha d afew email chats with various employees and they are always very helpful and friendly. The website is set up to be as informative as possible, though not all beer have descriptions and/or pictures. I also do not worry about the shipments because they do a wonderful job packing up the beer so it has a nice safe journey.

I have ordered from Liquid Solutions several times, and so far I have not had any problems at all. My wife (not a beer geek) has even ordered from them for gifts for me, and had no problem finding beers that I will like based only on the descriptions given on the site.

The selection is great, for what I am looking for at least. Being in VA, there are many West Coast beers that I cannot get, so they are my main focus. I am able to try things like AleSmith, Alaskan, and even the odd brew from breweries that I can usually get on this coast, that for some reason I couldn't find here.

Shipping is a little pricey in some people's eyes, but with the way they package it, it's well worth it. I've never had as much as a scratch on a bottle before, and even had some arrive still cold in the summer months due to the insulation of the styrofoam containers they use. Also, when you think of how much it costs you to ship ANYTHING these days, it is very reasonable in my opinion.

Overall this is an amazing online store, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking out beer that they just can't get where they are.

I brought from Liquid Solutions one time, and definitely plan to buy from them again. Go to their website, and click on "The Wall of Beer" They will tell you how many varieties are in stock.

The quality of beers available is great. Nice selection. I was able to order Alaskan Smoked Porter from them last year and thought it was fantastic. Next time maybe some Russian River, Stone, Green Flash, Deschutes, or a nice combination of these and some others.

Some beers are available as bombers, some single bottles, sample packs, cases, and 12 packs. It's hard to go wrong with such great selection.

I was really impressed by Liquid Solutions operation. I ordered online. The selection was outstanding with many imported, hard to get, and just not available in our local stores kinds of beer. The beer arrived packed in styrofoam dividers with styrofoam peanuts between the bottle and all were in great condition. I like that the company keeps you apprised by email every step of the way so that you know almost exactly when the beer will arrive. I will definitely use the service again. Obviously, shipping costs adds to the price so it pays to be selective but it was a great experience and the beer will hold me for a while.

This place was well worth the trip and traffic hassles I had to deal with to get here. Although a bit tucked away in one of those strip-mall type places, it was difficult to find at first, but once you get there, it's heaven for any beer lover. The toughest part was to figure out which beer to select. Although "One of Each" would have made everyone happy, but luckily, Matt Maples was there to assist me into deciding which beers would best suit my bitter habits. I told him which ones I've had before, and he showed several beers that I haven't had and would probably like. I'll defiantely make the trip out again when the need arises.

I have bought from Liquid Solutions twice online now. The website is very easy to navigate and follow and I like that they give a little blurb about each beer which is nice when I haven't heard of something. Their selection is very good, lots Pac NW local beers and a lot of stuff that's not distributed here in CA such as Dogfish Head rarities and Great Divide. On my recent purchase I got some DFH Punkin' and Immort, Elysian Night Owl, and some Boulder brews among others.

Service - I'm going on their delivery service. I've never talked to anybody, but they are prompt, I like the emails that they give you through the whole process. Both times I've gotten my packages in 7-10 days, less than the 2 weeks average they post on the website.

Quality is top notch, I've never had an off or stale beer out of the 2 dozen I've purchased so far, and I've never had a broken bottle, the beers are very well packaged.

Price I gave $$$ just because the shipping is quite expensive about 40% of my purchase on 12 brews. Pricey, but for beers I can't get without driving to Arizona or further, it's certainly cheaper than gas.

In conclusion, a great online store, I plan on using them again soon.

I have never visited Liquid Solutions in the flesh, but have recently ordered from them on-line for the first time. Let me say that it won't be long until I place another order . . . and another . . .

LS has an exceptional selection of beer. Living in Wichita, I don't have access to many of the great brews of the world. A place like LS gives me a chance to try the beers that, until now, I have only gotten to hear people talk about.

I was a little leary of receiving precious, fragile bottle of beer via UPS. (I used to work for a shipping company and have seen first-hand how packages get treated.) But the compartmentalized, Styrofoam shippers packed in a box kept my babies safe for the entire journey.

I haven't had to deal with anyone from LS one-on-one yet, but that just shows how smoothly my order went. Thanks Matt!

I just recently recieved my second package from LiquidSolutions. I was quite pleased to see that all of my precious children arrived intact and not skunked. Shipping was delayed for quite some time, but I note this as a positive... why? The West Coast has recently experienced some fluke weather patterns that prevented beer from being shipped without repeatedly freezing/thawing. The people at LiquidSolutions cared enough about my product arriving intact that they delayed their own payment until they were sure the package was sent. I much appreciate the quality over speed of service, or else I wouldn't be a BA. Oh yeah, the beer is great too. Thanks, guys!

(edit: reasonable prices on bottles, but shipping can get out of hand, as you could imagine)

Used the site over a year ago for a purchase, and am filling a shopping cart as I type this, which reminded me to review it. The selection absolutely rules. For an online site, it's superb. Just look for yourself..they have a wide array of beers..from great (and rare) US craft offerings to many different styles of hard-to-find Belgians. They just got DFH 120 Minute IPA too..how kick ass is that??

They are expertly packaged and ship out quickly. The only problem is that shipping gets to be pricey in a hurry, but that's what you get when you're shipping a dozen 22oz bombers halfway across the country. I'm really not sure why I don't use the site more.. I'll drive an hour or more out of my way to visit a beer store that MAY have what Matt has conveniently listed on his site. I never claimed to be smart..but I'm placing an order right now, so maybe I'm getting there.

I recently took the plunge… I ordered some beer from Liquid Solution. The process was painless. Matt Maples promptly emailed me to inform me than I had screwed up my address and it needed to be fixed. I really appreciated that, I’m sure some companies would not have looked so closely and my goods would have never arrived. Secondly, Matt was quick to respond to me emails about why more order kept saying “pending” as it turned out one of the beers I requested was not available and he made a suggestion as to a replacement. Once that was done the ball started rolling. A tracking number was emailed to me as well. In other words the service was great.

As you can tell, if you’re so inclined to visit their website, they selection is great, lots of Pac/NW beers (none from Idaho which bummed me out). Imports are quality as well. It is apparent that some thought went into which beers would be carried. The selection is great.

My beer arrived very well packed in a Styrofoam container, every beer in its own compartment. Even though the box had a five-inch hole in the side of it all the beer was safe. Shipping prices are reasonable but buying from LS is still a luxury for me. I can’t afford to buy 12 beers and spend over $60. Thankfully there is Christmas and my birthday!

LS is a classy operation. I highly recommended it anybody looking for beer.

In my opinion, this is the best place to order beer online! It's easy and quick; and I've never had a problem here, but I've had more than a few elsewhere. In fact, I guess the worst thing I could say that's happened to me with L.S. was that they ran out of something I'd ordered and called me to see what I'd like in place of it, or if I just wanted it taken off of the bill. They told me when it might be in stock again, and then made some replacement suggestions. It shipped the same day! Geez, I'd say that's pretty good!

I stumbled across Liquid Solutions through the Stone Brewery website, and decided to check out their selection. Five minutes later, I was fumbling for my wallet.

They have a broad range of beer, focused primarily on West Coast offerings that aren't available just anywhere. I was requesting something with highly limited availability, so I decided to confirm with their CS people. I ended up speaking to Matt, the owner/operator, and realized that these weren't just people with a good business. They also had a passion for beer. It was particularly comforting to know I was purchasing from an establishment that knew its stuff.

My order took three weeks or so to arrive, just as promised, and was immaculately packaged in a six-bottle wine shipper. The box even had a space for cellaring information on it. The level of effort given to the protection of the purchaser's goods was excellent, and well worth the shipping charges.

I highly recommend doing business with Liquid Solutions. They are focused on good beer and great customer service, so you may buy with confidence.

Like most of the other reviewers, I have never actually been to Liquid Solutions. However, I have ordered beer from them. I ordered a case of Alaskan Smoked Porter -- something I have been wanting to try for years. It came in a well-sealed and well-packed cardboard box, with styrofoam dividers and peanuts to insulate and cushion the bottles.

I received emails when the order was placed, and also when the order was shipped. Tracking numbers were provided so I could chart my beer's progress.

All in all, a well-run operation. I definitely feel like I got my money's worth, and will doubtless purchase from them again.

I have only web-ordered from this store. All beers received have been in top-notch condition.

The selection is excellent with a focus on Northwest USA beers, and an outstanding mix of Northwest artisinal ciders. The stock rotates, and there always seem to be enough new treats to prompt another order. The web-site seems well-maintained, as new stock is always being added, and out-of-stock items deleted. Only once has a beer I ordered been unavailable, and I was notified and able to substitute another selection.

Packaging is very carefully and thoughtfully done, and shipping is within the time frame promised by the website. A very well run operation! Keep up the great work.

Just received my first order from Liquid Solutions and I can say that I'll definitely order from there again.
Besides the convenience of sitting at my computer and browsing the selection. There are a lot of beers available via that site that I simply just can't get locally. Not to mention several rare, hard to find beers as well.
For instance my recent order was for some Peche Mortel that I've been trying to locate for about 9 months to a year.
The prices are reasonable, even including the shipping. The place is ran by Matt Maples and sometimes he can get a little busy, imagine that. But I'm willing to wait if that means I gain access to beers that I normally wouldn't.
The shipping is done with styro-shippers and protects the beers well. Liquid Solutions is a wonderful asset to the micro beer world. I enjoy the store and the concept and foresee myself utilizing their website to place several orders for beers that I can't get.
Highly recommend. Exercise a little patience and you will not be disapponted.
