Handsome black, velvety color in the New Belgium snifter with a dark beige head. Pleasant watery body with a sudsy mouthfeel. Foam lasts really well. Warm, malty, and slightly sweet to start. Some winey, chocolatey tingle after that. Bitter, burnt barley with more bitter hops for the aftertaste. Some earthiness.

Quite drinkable, but rather plain dark brew. Very dark in every flavor, but it has the mellow Porter character. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle.

I bought a bottle of Snake Bite Porter in a bottle shop. Poured in to a pint glass.

Pours an opaque black color, with a HUGE chunky tan head.

Smell is a sweet bread and caramel scent.

Taste is a sweet chocolate flavor up front. with a coffee flavor in the middle and a dry charcoal finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly;y cloying, but appropriate for the style.

Overall a decent porter. I'd have it again.

[Suggested Glassware: Nonic Pint]

The pour was pitch black with a huge (3-4 finger) cocoa brown fluffy head that slowly receded, down to a thick foamy medium cap which produced some good runny lacing.

The aroma was of burnt dark bread malts, a mild resin hop and a bold leathery yeast with notes of baker's chocolate, coffee, vanilla and a light smoky presence.

The taste was extremely malty and very roasty with a huge bitter chocolate note which was present throughout, and then became slightly bitterer with a mild coffee taste and a hint of smoke towards the finish. The flavor lasted an average time following the swallow, with a roasty bitter mocha coffee taste hitting you right in the back of the throat, and then lingered there for a just little while longer.

Mouthfeel was medium in body with a thin oily texture and a carbonation that was ever so soft.

Overall I found this to be an extremely chocolaty brew with a nice bold bitter roastiness, which just so happened to create a superbly delicious drinking experience... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very dark brown, appearing black in the glass. Big active three finger light brown head with good retention and massive lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, light chocolate and a hint of mineral. Flavor starts subtly with light malt then the toasted malt, chocolate and burnt coffee develop, finishing with a toasty charred finish with a pleasant light hop bite. Medium bodied with some creaminess. Nicely done with a pleasant flavor progression, well integrated. The flavors are somewhat subdued, but the finish makes up for it. Well done.

22oz bottle purchased at an Albertson’s in Kennewick, WA – I forget the price. No freshness date. Different label than the one pictured on BA. First beer I’ve had from Bend that wasn’t brewed by Deschutes.

Poured a glossy black that allowed no light to pass through it, with a huge, rocky mocha-colored head. Said head took forever to drop, leaving sheets of lace.

Dryish aroma of rosted malts, coffee and cocoa, with the coffee the dominant partner.

Molasses and coffee in the flavor. It starts out sweet but more bitter flavors come in to balance it out. Mildly dry at the swallow.

Fairly dry yet coating mouthfeel. About right for a porter.

A pretty good porter. I think this beer compares favorably to Black Butte, except in terms of price and availability.

I have a bunch of bottles stored at OKComputers house and last we cracked open a few and this is one of them. Poured into straight pint glass. Poured a light black color with a bit of translucence. The beer had about a half inch of light tan head that had good retention and lacing.

The aroma was nicely full and rich, with nice grain and roast notes. The flavor was very similar, grain and roast, and was a fairly typical example of the style.

The body was pretty good, full and well-rounded without being heavy. Drinkability was very good, I'd like to have a couple more bottles. Overall, a nice example of the style that's worth trying if you see it. I'd had this bottle sitting around for a couple of years, I suspect that fresh the flavors would have been crisper and more well-defined. I'll try this beer again and update my review.

Dark black with a creamy contrasting tan head. Good.

Rounded cocoa and coffee aroma. It's a touch sweet but still good.

Big roasty flavour with bitter cocoa and some coffee. Nice.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Fine.

A good porter with big flavour and a rounded mouthfeel. This works for me.

Another beer that my brother brought home for me from Bend.

Pours a deep dark brown color with a pretty nice off white head, and a bit of lacing.

Aromas are quite nice. A bit smoky, with heavily roasted malts, bitter dark chocolate and cocoa.

Taste starts with light bitterness up front, some semi sweet creaminess, and some dark chocolate. Finish is lightly smoky with some pine and mineral bitterness,

Mouthfeel is good, full and smooth.

Overall, this is a very solid porter. Recommended.

Comes out of the bottle a barely translucent warm sable brown with a substantial, if not too persistent, fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is smoky and has components of brown sugar and quality coffee. Lip-smacking flavor has tones of quality coffee, molasses, caramel and semi-sweet chocolate plus a hint of licorice. Texture is smooth, a little thick, and just a little fizzy. Definitely worthy, especially if you favor porters.

A: Pours a dark black color, large frothy tan head with nice lacing down the glass
S: Large amount of roasted malts in the smell also slight coffee scent
T: Slightly sweet up front with a charred bitter grain flavor at the end. Also some grassy/woody aftertaste.
M: Medium bodied beer silky smooth mouthfeel going down
O: Pretty decent beer, not my favorite porter ever but one of the better beers I've had from Silver Moon

Appearance is a very dark ruby brown supporting an off white brownish head. Smell is rich with the dark malts, chocolate, coffee and maybe some dark fruit notes. Taste of the roasted dark malt, coffee and light chocolate with a light hop bite in the end. Mouthfeel is viscous medium with a light carbonation ending dry. Overall nothing complex, but still a nice brew for the style that ends enjoyable.
