Comes out of the bottle a barely translucent warm sable brown with a substantial, if not too persistent, fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is smoky and has components of brown sugar and quality coffee. Lip-smacking flavor has tones of quality coffee, molasses, caramel and semi-sweet chocolate plus a hint of licorice. Texture is smooth, a little thick, and just a little fizzy. Definitely worthy, especially if you favor porters.

A gem from Silver Moon. This is a delicious Robust Porter that has the flavor and character to accompany you on a cold central Oregon night, but the drinkability to still be a go to beer in the hotter months.

Appearance:
A huge beautiful dark tan head rises up looking like a chocolate milk shake poured over the top of the deepest blackest brown color known to man. It is very appetizing to look at and makes it hard to wait for that first sip. Fortunately this beautiful head stays around for awhile and as it finally fades it leaves bountiful reminders of its reign.

Aroma:
Yummy chocolate greets you first and then introduces you to a subdued but enjoyable hop aroma. An enjoyable smokiness swirls in the background.

Taste:
That first sip is amazing with its silky smoothness delivering chocolate, roast malt and an appetizing smokiness which becomes more apparent with each sip. There is not quite enough sweetness. The themes of chocolate, roast malt and smokiness repeatedly pleasure your tongue sip after sip. This beer isn't complex, but it makes up for it by its drinkability.

Finish:
Snake bite finishes clean with some light lingering bitterness and a bit of smokiness. The bitterness makes you crave that next sip hoping for a little more sweetness.

Poured from the 22oz bottle into a pint glass. Body is a deep dark brown with a smallish, khaki-colored head. Aroma of rich dark malt, a hint of chocalatey sweetness, and a slight roasted character. Palate is rich and malty up front, with chocolate and mocha notes. A mild hoppy bitterness emerges at the swallow, leading to a nicely balanced finish. Body is smooth and rather silky, almost like a nitro pour. I'm a big fan of Silver Moon beers, and this one is no exception. Not the most outstanding porter out there, but a very enjoyable, drinkable ale.

Another beer that my brother brought home for me from Bend.

Pours a deep dark brown color with a pretty nice off white head, and a bit of lacing.

Aromas are quite nice. A bit smoky, with heavily roasted malts, bitter dark chocolate and cocoa.

Taste starts with light bitterness up front, some semi sweet creaminess, and some dark chocolate. Finish is lightly smoky with some pine and mineral bitterness,

Mouthfeel is good, full and smooth.

Overall, this is a very solid porter. Recommended.

22oz bottle purchased at an Albertson’s in Kennewick, WA – I forget the price. No freshness date. Different label than the one pictured on BA. First beer I’ve had from Bend that wasn’t brewed by Deschutes.

Poured a glossy black that allowed no light to pass through it, with a huge, rocky mocha-colored head. Said head took forever to drop, leaving sheets of lace.

Dryish aroma of rosted malts, coffee and cocoa, with the coffee the dominant partner.

Molasses and coffee in the flavor. It starts out sweet but more bitter flavors come in to balance it out. Mildly dry at the swallow.

Fairly dry yet coating mouthfeel. About right for a porter.

A pretty good porter. I think this beer compares favorably to Black Butte, except in terms of price and availability.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very dark brown, appearing black in the glass. Big active three finger light brown head with good retention and massive lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, light chocolate and a hint of mineral. Flavor starts subtly with light malt then the toasted malt, chocolate and burnt coffee develop, finishing with a toasty charred finish with a pleasant light hop bite. Medium bodied with some creaminess. Nicely done with a pleasant flavor progression, well integrated. The flavors are somewhat subdued, but the finish makes up for it. Well done.

To start the current label is much cooler then the one posted here.

I've been trying to enjoy more local breweries to try and find a hidden gem. Then again I'll most likely have to go to a tap house of some kind or to the breweries directly.

A- The liquid is a very very dark brown upon the pour, and sits black in the glass with a very tan head. The liquid poured very thick and viscous, looks tasty.

S- Great porter smell, chocolate with very roasty malts, slight coffee flavor too. Something very earthy is there as well.

T- This has some huge smoke notes to it. Wow I couldn't smell the smoke but it is huge here. Almost borders a smoked porter. There is a cherry taste as well and this bitter chocolate that gets more bitter as the beer goes on. The more I drink this the heartier it gets.

M- I would have thought it was thicker based on the pour, but for a porter it is pretty thick. Feels good in the mouth.

D- Easy to drink for sure.
This is a solid brew, the smoke threw me off big time, quite a nice surprise.

pours a deep, murky opaque black with and mocha colored frothy head, very enticing

roasted malt upfront, followed by slight caramel, a touch of chocolate (closer to bittersweet than milk) and even a slight apple aroma

slight dry malt, followed by smooth and mellow caramel with slight chocolate undertones more evident on the finish. Slight piney and dry hops combined with the dry malt again and mild apple notes on the finish

smooth, medium bodied without being too sugary, a good mixture of malts, has all of the good porter tastes and body that i look for. Malty, good body, subtle yet long finish

a very good and enjoyable beer. It seems that porters are making a comeback in 22 form. Its got a great malty body with enough texture and characteristics melding together for great balance, body, and enjoyability. Light in alcohol, (4.5%) but with a body of a much larger beer. A long and balanced finish make this very tasty.

Appearance is a very dark ruby brown supporting an off white brownish head. Smell is rich with the dark malts, chocolate, coffee and maybe some dark fruit notes. Taste of the roasted dark malt, coffee and light chocolate with a light hop bite in the end. Mouthfeel is viscous medium with a light carbonation ending dry. Overall nothing complex, but still a nice brew for the style that ends enjoyable.

Dark black with a creamy contrasting tan head. Good.

Rounded cocoa and coffee aroma. It's a touch sweet but still good.

Big roasty flavour with bitter cocoa and some coffee. Nice.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Fine.

A good porter with big flavour and a rounded mouthfeel. This works for me.

MaltBombPete introduced me to a glass of this from a bottle in which was purchased out in Tigard, OR from a Whole Foods....

- Great finger of thick light mocha colored foam... leaves a nice large ring of lace and a thin spotty layer on top.. coats the entire top.

- Bitter roasted husks of barley... a big grain overkill on the scent... bitter coffee without the need for it.... grain, burnt bread... roasty sweet chocolate... bitter. Maybe some pine hop?

- Oat-like semi-sweet grain profile w/ a touch of coffee, chocolate bitter nibs and husks... straw, grain... roasty seeds from a squash. All around natural porter with perhaps a note of bitter pine hops for preservation.

- Medium bodied... slightly creamy... not too chewy and only slightly drying because of it's robust use of grain and roasted flavors.

- Overall a fine porter, and one I could drink out sitting on some fence somewhere in a hay field while talking about old Mopars or something in the backwoods with some braindeads. Not too bad... but bottled why?

Bottle back at Tumalo campground. Late eveniing..sky mauve..quater moon . Dark brown ale, light brown thick creamy head. Malty roasted aromas, dark chocolate. Rather milky taste, slightly toasted oat. Lite coffee , dark chocolate:only 65% cacoa. Tastes like a true English porter. Good smooth yet thin ( in style) mouthfeel. Very nice drinkable and lowish alkie.

A - Pours a very deep brown, near black, with a chocolately head that really expands as you pour. Excellent retention and lacing to boot.

S - Mild overall, but dominated by chocolate malts and coffee.

T - Foregoes the chocolate in lieu of a lot of coffee - nice deep roasted espresso and good overall complexity with some piney hops detectable, and good overall bitterness levels. Long coffee finish.

M - Could have used a bit more thickness to it - on the thin side, but yet not watery. Medium carbonation.

D - Quite drinkable, yet left me wanting just a bit more, especially in the body. Not the best porter I have had, but still quite good.
