Living in Bend, we have SO many breweries... It's nice to see one of the first breweries in town stepping up and producing some great beer. The new owners have really done a lot with this place and I'm excited to see how they grow in the future. Love the new bottles! Keep up the great work Silver Moon.

As mentioned in my 10 Barrel review, atmosphere-wise, this place is the polar opposite of that place.
While 10 barrel is upscale and trendy, this place is pretty dumpy looking, looking for all the world like a pool hall dive. There were no well dressed hipsters at the Silver Moon, the day I stopped by, and I doubt the bartenders here specialize in trendy designer cocktails. Otherwise, the place is fairly spacioius, with some fairly rickety looking table and chairs in the main dining area, and then a fair size bar straight back from the front entrance when you walk in. There were a couple of TV sets going when I stopped by, with most of the modest size crowd watching the ducks demolish the hapless buffs (which was the only thing the SM clientele had in common with the 10 barrel crowd).
As for the selection, they had some 8 different house beers on tap this day, including a fresh hop IPA. The latter was what I ordered, and I have to say it was considerably better than anything I had over at 10 barrel. Also tried the DIPA, which was also pretty tasty, though a bit sweet for my palate. Service was friendly and quick, with the friendly bartender sympathizing with my unhappiness over the lack of the Uncle Jim Maui Wowie DIPA (which he confirmed was a very popular beer, and one he was hopeful the brewer woudl be making again).
Prices were reasonable I thought. My 12 ounce glass of the fresh hop IPA was $3.50.
Didn't try the food... maybe nex time (if there is a next time).
An interesting place, but unless they happened to have on tap a beer I just had to have (and couldn't find elsewhere in town), I'm not sure I can see myself coming back here again any time soon.

As others have said Silver Moon is more of a straight up bar atmosphere. They do allow minors in there until a certain time of night then it is no minors allowed. The atmosphere isn't great in my opinion, but it's not bad either. Then again I haven't been in there when they have a band playing, which is pretty frequent I hear.
The quality of their beer is pretty good, seems like some of the batches vary, but it is usually pretty tasty. Their ESB always seems to be top notch.
The service is great. We had like 15 people last time I went in, and the waitress was always there asking if we needed refills. The food was also brought to our table pretty quickly considering we ordered four giant pizzas.
The food is awesome. Their BBQ pizza is outstanding, I couldn't get enough of it. Have yet to try any of their other stuff, but the pizza is good for sure.
The prices are great, they have cheaper pints than most brewpubs and their growler fills are only $8 if you have the glass, or $9.50-11 for seasonal/specials last time I was there. Those are hard prices to beat for a growler.
Pretty decent place overall. Would like to go back and try some of their other food sometime.

Silver Moon is the more of a bar scene brewpub than the other family friendly pubs in Bend. It has a pool table and foosball, along with a stage for the live music they often have. It's a nice, open space located in the Midtown section of Bend. On the walls back by the restrooms are framed articles about how the place came to be.
I enjoyed seeing this place gradually get better and better from when I moved to Bend in '05. They even won a GABF in '10 for their pilsner. It'll be interesting to see how far Silver Moon takes it.
Like alot of Bend, Silver Moon can be understaffed at times. Although, this place always seemed to have really competent bartenders that did it all without too many issues. In short, it's a maybe you might have to go up to the bar to get more pints type of place.
Not a huge brewery, so the selection is usually about 8 or so. sometimes they run out of regular lineup brews. I enjoyed the amber and the wife always got snakebite porter. This brewery seems to be upping the stakes a bit and have recently had imperial pilsners & IPA's, along with an awesome farmhouse ale. They sent a keg hopped DIPA with 120 IBU's to The Abbey Pub once. Silver Moon is definitely trying things.
Only ever had the pulled pork nachos and pizza. Both of which were absolutely fine for the state I was in. Quality, but standard, pub fare.
They have a locals night, but don't include all the higher ABV brews in their $2.50 pint deal.

Silver moon, located on greenwood avenue seems to be the more 'hip' location as far as brewpubs in town.
As you walk inside, the feel is more of a lower class bar, decor is bland, atmosphere is lacking (although, maybe on a band night, it might be nicer) not much going on as far as the ambiance of the place.
Beer is where they make up for it a bit, some award winning regulars, and very interesting seasonals make it still a good location to go to. Food is something I did not try, but looked good as it came out of the kitchen. Service was friendly and happy to pour pints, and actually interested in conversation unlike many beer servers in town.
It will be somewhere I will go again, maybe on a night when a show is playing. Monday night is locals night, with cheaper pints.

I recently made my second visit to Silver Moon and came away impressed again. With a feel more like a neighborhood bar than a "typical" brewpub, I was right at home. It seems as if they are constantly working on and upgrading their space. It seemed a bit cleaner and more organized than before and some very nice murals have been painted on the walls to give the room a bigger feel that it actually is.
The quality of the beer and service were both very good, the bartender was busy (she was working the whole front of the house alone and the place seemed about half full) bit still had time to answer some questions and joke around a bit. The two beers I had were very good, as was the taster of a third, and I bought a few bottles to go. They had a nice variety of styles, you'll find something you'll like.
I didn't eat, but the food looked good and was reasonably priced. I look forward to a chance to visit when I'll have more than 14 hours in town and can spend some time here. If you hit Bend, Silver Moon is a must hit.

Silver moon....best priced pint in town! Silver Moon is the dark horse of Bend right now. Been around for several years but the last two years they have really been upping their game. The atmosphere is almost more of a bar feel, pool table featured in one part of the room, a few tables take up the rest of the space. Beer bottles line the shelves around the ceiling...always fun to see what you've tried. As for the quality it is good and always getting better...the service is typical of a pub, good but nothing great. The selection is decent, could use more variety but they are small and growing. The food is good, no great specials or deals and typical of a pub. Overall Silver Moon is the best place to stop in after work and grab a few pints, beyond that it falls in popularity to Deschutes and BBC.

Showed up on a late Saturday afternoon. Pretty quiet, with some tv's going, a pool table, foosball, and a few other games.
Beer quality was above average, but not great. I had a tasty pilsner, tried another beer that I can't quite remember, probably because it was somewhat forgettable.
Service was ok. The girl that helped us was prompt, but pretty indifferent to us being there.
Selection was pretty good, I think they had 7 beers on tap.
Food was good. I had a tasty dinner that was very reasonably priced.

I've been coming into Silver Moon for almost three years now. What once was an understocked homebrew supply store that crafted some of their own beers has now grown into a full fledged brewpub that makes a pretty good pint of brew.
Out went the homebrew supplies and in came a small kitchen and major upgrade in the brewery portion of the business. Silver Moon has two young, extremely gifted brewers that work there and are growing their knowledge of this craft.
The beer lineup consists of an Amber (actually a British mild), Bitter, Pilsner, a smokey robust Porter, and an IPA that gets a little hoppier with each batch brewed. Seasonals include Belgian ales, hefeweizens, Irish reds, and American pale ales.
The food at the moon is decent enough, and fairly priced. The menu is basic pub fare.
The atmosphere at Silver Moon is pretty good and definately leans towards local "Bendites." This has become one of the favored venues for local, live music, and can become standing room only for these events.

~ Update ~
They have moved their homebrew shop to another building. This place is has now become a complete restaurant/tavern with tables, great atmosphere, and an extended bar. They now have a full kitchen too, with a great menu and lots of new beers (seasonals).
Old review from 9-21-07
Ahh, Silver Moon. One of the newest microbreweries is Bend, they offer 5 or so of their beers ontap. They have seasonals sometimes too.
Decor is very laid back and comfortable. Rows of rare/antique beer bottles and growlers line the walls. They have a FREE pool table, a poker (or scrabble!) table in the corner, comforable family seating. Oh, and it's Non-smoking.
Their normal selection of beer is: Hound's Tooth Amber, Bridge Creek Pilsner, High Plains Heffe, Snake Bite Porter, Badlands Bitter, Hop Knob IPA.
I recommend getting a sampler (so you can taste them all) and when you pick one you all like, get a pitcher for your group!
Monday is locals night, $2 pints, woot!
They've got good food, I recommend the pulled pork nachos, any of their sandwiches, or any daily special.
Live Music every Wednesday and Saturday. Pick of a copy of the free weekly indy newspaper "The Source" somewhere in town to see who's playing at Silver Moon this week. Its usually decent local bands.
Lots of locals here most of the week. If your from out of town, this place is really inviting, and you'll get a good taste of the local flavor. I'd recommend this over Deschutes if you don't have time for both.
