Heck of a beer from Scotland. These guys got this one right. Just the right amount of Oak and just the right amount of Scotch. The ideal ABV 7.4%, didn't hurt. Cheers!

Poured into a tulip glass.
A: A clear amber with off-white 1 finger head that lingered. Thick lacing.
S: Boozy, oak, caramel. Molasses and roasted malts.
T: The booze continues with a sweetness that doesn't overpower. Caramel and oak with some vanilla. I'm not picking up the heavy malts that a highland ale usually has. Perhaps the Scotch aging took this away.
M: Medium with medium carbonation. A smooth sipper.
O: I got this for $8 (what I thought was a steal) and later noticed the "enjoy by" date was about 8 months earlier than I tried it. Perhaps if I'd discovered this one about a year ago, the taste might've been better. Not bad, though. I'd prefer the regular I & G line.

A: Nice bright glowing orange with a slight, beach sand colored head. Light, slow rise of fine bubbly carbonation.
S: Sweet honey bourbon and oaky flair, toasty malt and heather. Nice spiciness, dried syrup and honey pine, with a decent strength with a light whiskey fade.
T: The flavor was sweet caramel grains and bourbon. Big oaky flair, buttery caramel and honey toasted malt. Fresh flowery hops and heather bring an earthy green appeal with some dried fruitiness, vanilla, and dried honey-bourbon cashew nuttiness. Hints of sweet nutmeg and cypress.
M: Light bodied, syrupy slick texture with a quiet carbonation. Sweet honey-bourbon warmth.
O: The oaky-whiskey flavor and influence defines this beer with a smooth character and drink-ability factor. Its a bit sweet for large volumes or multiples, but has a nice English character. Still an 85 seems right for me. Having had several of their beers, they seem to have a common thread in most of their offerings.

Poured into a snifter. This beer is packaged in a box creating a visually appealing packaging and label on the bottle. The aroma is faint malts, sweet honey, tea leaves, and some notes from the oak aging. The taste is very much on the sweet side like the aroma with a lingering sweetness well into the finish. Overall, decent beer but it would be better with a little less sweetness and a little more character from the oak aging.

Quick Review: Starts off decent with caramel and some bready malts, but then it takes a big nos e dive. The malt becomes unbelievably sweet to point of tasting like cough medicine. The flavor disappears, turns bland, and shows no resemblance of an english strong ale, much less an oak aged ale. Will definitely give to another shot to make it wasn't an anomaly, but as it stands it way too sweet and flavorless.
