11.2oz bottle poured into a snifter. Batch date stamp on neck of bottle was 113380440.
Appearance: Clear deep copper with red highlights. Light tan very thin foam at first at the edges, but over time this completely disappeared.
Smell: Rich caramel, hint of oak, rum.
Taste: Sweet, some buttery flavors, caramel, and definite rum flavor. Finish is boozy, but not excessively so. A lot of the nice scotch ale flavors get lost here with the rum flavor. It's good, just not amazing for a scotch ale.
Mouthfeel: Surprisingly lively carbonation for a scotch ale, but not fizzy. Slightly spicy on the tongue. Slick and thicker than water underneath the carbonation.
Overall / Drinkability: Interesting. Not an amazing scotch ale, just simply interesting. I'm on the fence about having another one. I think I wouldn't mind a proper full pint of this rather than 11.2oz, but I also don't think I would buy it again. Definitely worth a try though to see how a beer aged in a Rum cask turns out.
