This beer looks and smells fantastic. Mouth feel is great, a little bitey but smooth. The taste kills the beer for me though, revolting and offensive. Had to give it away. I love other innis and Gunn beers but this one is not for me.

An absolute perfect tasting beer with hints of smoke and sweet rum. Highly recommend this gem. The best of the their lineup.

This beer looks heavy, almost like a stout, but isn't. It smells like it tastes, namely, a smooth dark ale with a butterscotch finish. One almost expects a harsh bite of rum in the throat but it glides down leaving a buttery remembrance. Perfectly blended beer and rum flavors. It's almost closer to a Christmas, fireside drink than a typical beer.

the beer that started me on craft beer,if i was writing this post 3 years ago it may have a got a higher mark but the variety and continual improvement of other beers drops this down the list slightly. Still, its a very good beer, just not held in such high esteem as when i first tried it, Also dont think its I&G's best effort, but the rum and ale do work well together, despite it not being my first choice its still a very good beer.

Not my favorite style but an interesting beer. You can definitely make out the rum soaked oak in the flavor. Overall, a little sweet for my taste

Not bad. Probably might get again to share at a poker game or something similar.

Pours quite flat, clear red colour. Not much of a smell. Tastes a bit sweet, a bit more hops would not have hurt.

Was pleasant but not outstanding. Not sure the rum element was for me.

As a beer, this pretentious option is a bit disappointing. As a rum, this option is light and disapponting.
Its presentation is pretty good though and it's only sold in establishments where it's promoted skillfully.

Thoroughly enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a sifter. This fine Scottish pours a reddish brown with a dissipating off white head of fine beaded bubbles that finely comes to rest in a thin ring and little lacing. Nose of oak, brown sugars, toffee, and roasted nuts. Flavors are complex with rum and brown sugars coming through on the front and sides, a light oak character on the back, and a nice nutty character on the aftertaste blending in nicely with brown sugars and a sweet vanilla note. Smooth lightly carbonated mouth feel is slick and crisp with alcohol warmth slowly coming through. Very nice. Another great from Innis and Gunn.

Cheers!

A: crystal clear; reddish brown; 1 finger khaki head that receded quickly to a thin patchy cap; very little lacing;

S: sweet malt, brown sugar, oak; a little medicinal; a little musty;

T: the barrel aging is most noticeable up front; molasses becomes predominant at mid-palate with a hint of dark fruit; almost no bitterness;

M: medium to full bodied; light carbonation;

O: flavor wasn't as complex as I expected, but this was quite nice;

Mahogany in color with a fingers worth of head. Smell is sweet sugar with a mixture of vanilla, oak, and rum. Taste is initially sweet, dominated by rum with oak more towards the finish. Mouthful is thin with medium carbonation. Overall a great beer for rum lovers.

Finished in oak rum barrels, this beer imparts the sweet and spicy characters of the barrels. Simply delicious!

I love beer and I love rum, so I thought I'd love this. But I don't. I still love the idea, but this one didn't work for me.

It is light, with a nice malt base and doesn’t allow the hops to overwhelm the pallet. With a low ABV of 6.8% it is highly drinkable, while the rum from the oak chips adds a sweetness instead of the sting of pure alcohol that too many barrel aged beers hit you with.
