330ml transparent bottle. Snifter glass. Rum & yeast as cap is removed. Reddish amber color headed by quickly dissipated off-white froth. Toasted malts, biscuit, herbs & vanilla to the nose while rum, anise, sugar & solvent-like notes are displayed on the back. Toasted, biscuit, brioche flavors & toffee hues. Medium to full body. Moderate to medium-high carbonation. Silky palate. Spicy notes & herbal touches, rum memories & sugar coated fruit flavors join slight earthy bitterness then linger into a sweetish finish. Wood on the aftertaste. Smooth & delightful beer for a paused & long drink.

Pours a very light and clear amber with a finger of white head.

A very rich aroma of rum, toffee and perhaps a bit buttery overall.

A nice balance of toffee and vanilla with a rum finish that lingers in a very sweet aftertaste.

Light body with medium carbonation making it incredibly easy to drink.

A nice brew I wouldn't mind having a few of, especially on a summer evening.

A great offering from an outstanding brewery. Great balance, excellent taste.
Wish I had a full four pack. Reminds me of the porter but with a smoother edge. The perfect level of alcohol flavor. A great beer to cap off a weekend. Looking for their IPA.

330ml bottle as a Christmas gift:
Medium amber with a small, bubbly white head about 1cm tall. The beer is clear as well.

Sweet with some butter & vanilla, some alcohol & oak. There is some alcohol from the rum & spice with various fruits too. Pleasant smelling one with some malts in the mix as well.

Sweet malts with toffee & caramel, vanilla & butterscotch as well with plenty of alcohol infused throughout. Some oak & malts feature but the alcohol and spices seem to dominate along with a taste of diluted rum.

Smooth & warming from the spices & rum with only some grain coming through & a medium body. There is more alcohol coming through that I would have liked but the beer wasn't a difficult one to drink.

Somewhat of a mix bag with a great mix of sweet malts, spices, vanilla and some rum but the alcohol content of the beer was all to apparent throughout and not particularly well masked. Sadly this one wasn't one of my favourite Innis & Gunn offerings I'm afraid.

Poured from the bottle into an English pint glass. A bright brassy orange hue with around four inches of honeycomb-like tan head, this brew has a rich sweet aroma redolent with rum, toffee, and perhaps chocolate-covered raisins, along with a fresh tannic woodiness. Does indeed drink more like an English ale than a thicker Scottish examplar, lighter-bodied than expected and fizzy, and featuring vanilla and sponge toffee flavors along with fruity esters that evoke apples and pears, brown spice ... A confectionary-like rounded sweetness with hints of booze. Less coarse and woody than Innis & Gunn Original (I prefer this one), very sweet but with some light hop flavor in the finish. Not too bad, does indeed produce a spiced rum effect but still tastes like a dextrinous ale. Innis & Gunn gets knocked around a bit in the craft beer community but really they do some decent barrel-aged stuff that is widely available at good prices.

Bottle: embossed 330mL clear bottle with the standard Innis & Gunn label.

Appearance: pours a clear, vibrant orange colour with fine carbonation. A one-finger tan head hangs about for a time before settling to a solid ring.

Aroma: plenty of toffee, caramels and butterscotch. Vanilla and rum in the back also - different but appealing.

Taste: the flavours from the nose come through quite strongly - nicely complex and quite sweet.

Aftertaste: the sweetness linges for quite a time, the sweetness becoming a touch too much for my palate. All the same, very nice.

Mouth feel: moderate in body with a lower carbonation. A slow sipper it would seem.

Overall: a very interesting beer - quite sweet yet complex at the same time. Well worth the having - a couple at a time.
