330ml Bottle as a Christmas gift:
Caramel with a 1cm beige head that is creamy & holds quite well.

Sweet with some caramel, toffee and various malts along with hints of treacle and some light vanilla. Dark fruits and sugar & some spice feature as well.

Sweet treacle and some bitterness along with it, there is some vanilla & butterscotch with a slight bit of alcohol & fruits too. I could detect some banana and toffee with some earthy malts on top of that. It is definitely an interesting tasting beer and one that goes down well.

Smooth with a light medium body and a sweetness through with strong carbonation. The beer has touches of bitterness towards the end with the finish a dry and crisp one.

Quite a good Innis & Gunn offering, a good combination of sweetness and slightly darker malts coming through, the only real downside was that the nose could have done with being a little stronger although it wasn't weak or bland.

Poured from the clear bottle into an English pint glass. A dark brown porter with a peachy orange tint, interesting look. Light beige foam, perhaps an inch deep. Smells like caramel toffee, vanilla, and oak, the classic Innis & Gunn aroma albeit darker and with a more prominent earthy hop bitterness and some light roasted notes. Palate is similar, ample toffee sweetness, a light cola-like spice, molasses, faint chocolate, red berry. The oaky tannic woodiness that is more obvious in brews like Innis & Gunn Original scottish ale is also present here but more subdued, and the bitterness from the molasses manages to reign in the usual sweet maltiness that pervades this brewer's ales. Just a shade thicker than thin-bodied to my palate, highly carbonated and finishes quite dry, bitter with echoes of roasted coffee bean and wood. Dries out as you go, becoming more woody and tannic near the end of a bottle. Not bad. I like the bitterness the molasses imparts. I do prefer more typical porters.

I don't usually drink much of these guys as I think the clear bottles put me off a little but the latest three styles released are all up my alley and it pours a copper hue with a creamy two finger head that rises fast to slowly recede to a rim of lacing and a tiny touch of lacing but bugger all,the smell is treacle, port wine, raisins and a touch of booze with only the slightest touch of oak and I mean slight, the mouthfeel is well carbonated maybe a little too much and the feel is light/medium bodied with Tastes firstly are sweet and are butterscotch, treacle, toffee and finished with a hit of light herbal hoppy bitterness to keep it real and overall it's a nice sessionable drop despite its big ABV but its no traditional porter by any means and unless stated on the label you would think its a strong English or Scottish ale and yeah I'd buy it again but don't expect an traditional English porter cheers.

330 ml bottle purchased from the LCBO. Served fairly cold into a pint glass.

Appearance - Clear mahogany color with red hues. 1 finger of off-white head is poured but leaves town pretty quick.

Smell - oak, vanilla and toffee, the bread and butter of I&G also some molasses, and slight earthiness.

Taste - More bitterness here than their other offerings, but actually helps here as the beer is too sweet otherwise. The bitterness reigns it in and cuts through it quite nicely. Slight spiciness on the back end. Toffee and trace banana. I like the flavor quite a bit.

Mouthfeel - Medium body and a bit spritzy feeling. Much thinner though for a porter and this is reflected here, but still somehow comes together to make a finished product.

overall - Pretty good I&G product and while not my favorite, removing it from the realm of porters and just drinking it as something to enjoy I feel it has higher merit and more drinkability because of the bitterness that cuts through the typically sweet I&G product line.
