"We have sourced rare, Oloroso Sherry casks to mature this Limited Edition. The beer is rich and spicy, with lots of nutty, caramel sweetness drawn from the wood." Brewed in the style of an English Strong Ale, available in 25.4 oz. bottles and on limited draft.
Poured from a 25.4 oz. bottle to a snifter glass.
(Appearance) Pours a creamy off-white head over a golden amber body with high clarity, moderate, lively carbonation, Retention is above average and lacing is light and patchy. 3.75
(Smell) Toffee malts, rich syrupy fruits, and toasted grains comprise the aroma, with a discernible rawness and undertone of light vinegar tartness, presumably born of the Oloroso Cask. Potency is moderate. 3.75
(Taste) Rich malt base of toffee, delicate roasted grain, rich syrupy fruit syrups, and caramelized sugars. The impact of the Oloroso cask is a bit more subtle that the aroma suggested, although the cask integrates some discernible nuttiness and light tangy characteristic of mild vinegar without a heavy drying or raw wood impact for an appropriate and delicate balance. 4
(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, residual, lightly sticky, mildly dry. Carbonation is mild with a light frothiness and a lightly crisp finish. Body is shy of medium for the style and medium overall. Balance is nearly even sweet to tangy and earthy bitter. Alcohol presence is very mild and there are no off characters. 3.75
(Overall) There are quite a few creative entries from Innis & Gunn that are a bit overblown by what goes into them, but the Oloroso Cask hits the mark quite well for me, and the success is in the simplicity and balance of this ale. Certainly a memorable and enjoyable ale for me, and one of my favorite Innis & Gunn offerings to date. 3.75

Caremelized malt and vanilla, sugar. Alcohol is well-hidden. Good roundness and small bitterness.

A most excellent of ales I have tried from Innis and Gunn. Barring the little paper description, this beer pours a clear light amber with a quickly diminishing white head. Nose is very soft, light malts, raisins, caramel, slight herbal notes. The taste is exceptional in my humble opinion. Soft caramel malts dance to the front, light fresh grape flavor, lightly tart, with a very light hop bitterness on the back. VERY balanced, and the alcohol UMPH is quite a nice surprise. HIGHLY drinkable and has a nice clean finish and caramel/grape aftertaste that is both pleasing and elegant. Lightly carbonated and full of flavor, this ale has a lot of depth with warmth and tons of character beyond a standard Scottish profile. CHEERS!
