Opa-Opa- IPA

A- Clear amber red/ brown with a small filmy head and filmy lacing.
S- Bold bitter pine hops with a sweet toffee malt.
T- Bitter oily pine needle hops blended nicely with a sweet buttery caramel/ toffee malt.
M- Buttery sweet malt quickly dominated by bitter sweet pine hops.

Overall- Quite solid IPA. A good beer to try from Opa-Opa.

A: Clear, light amber color with little diminishing white foam head.
S: Harsh grain notes with some kind of Trappist undertone The overall effect is suggestive of a hybrid hops bill using both modern (i.e., Amarillo) and traditional (Columbus) American cultivars. A chemical hops quality that is unpleasant.

T: Begins dry, Acidity takes over to where established flavors are still evident; flavor qualities generally become less intense. The finish is mildly bitter and malty with a neutral character of base grain.

M: Thin slightly acidic on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: This IPA seems to be assembled for mass appeal; a gateway to the style. It threatens to offend the senses and sensibilities of this student of hops by not supporting the low hop quality with bland malt notes. There will likely be a showdown looming when it hits sports bar draft lines next to Harpoon IPA.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Pours hazed gold with a ton of head, fades to some mild lacing.
S - Big juicy orange notes in this one, some mild earthy scents, some light toasted bread malt, which is kinda odd, but ok.
T - Again lots of orange, but lots of big sweet caramel and bread malt, moderate acrid bite.
M - Cloying sweetness, chewy.
O - Just an ok IPA, good orange, but thats all it has goin on for it.

decent ipa, nothing special. why does this beer look so crappy? clear golden with a thin white film, no head or rising bubbles, a regular dead beat. smells fine, balanced but still hop forward, weirdly light for an ipa, but smelling of fresh hops, pungent, which I mandate sometimes, and this hit the spot for that, but the taste was only okay, lacking the freshness and oily resinous beauty that makes this style memorable when its done well. I slammed one, but it still didn't feel drinkable, it felt like a dis in some ways, like an "I don't have time for your curious palate". what the hell man? I don't wanna hear that when ive got something pertinent to say. ya know? its one of those guys, and while its good, and serves an "I need a beer" purpose, it lacks the dignity that make a good dude a good dude.

Draft pint with dinner at the Brew Master Tavern in Williamsburg, where they make most of it, and where it was offered on the menu as "Buckwheat IPA."

a: Clear gold with a white foam ring but no head and little lacing.

s: Very mild citrus.

t: Hops forward, relatively powerfully so for a single IPA, but not much malt backbone of interest. Slightly thin.

m: Light to moderate.

o: Since it is local I wanted this to be better than it was. But it's not bad, the hops make themselves known. Decent to good, but not outstanding. According to the experts it was probably the wrong brew to have with my turkey dinner, but it worked well enough for me. .

Pours a light cloudy copper with a thin layer of head. The nose is only slightly hoppy. The upfront flavor is bready malt which is accented by a decent dose of hops on the finish. All-in-all, the body is a bit heavy for an IPA.

In a blind taste-test, I’d call this a hoppy ESB. That said, it is still a decent effort. If truth in advertising does not rank high on your list, give this offering a try.
