Ahhhh... Eli Cannon's, a mecca for us craft beer lovers. I've been meaning to go to Eli's for some time now, but couldnt justify the drive. Then i saw the Thomas Hooker tasting on the event calendar that would have Oak-Aged Liberator on tap, so i made the trip. The drive turned out to be not that bad, its located right off route 9 in MIddletown, very easy to get to, with easy parking as well. The interior of the bar is very eclectic. the walls are brick and are literally covered with graffiti that seems like its from the staff, evening the ceiling is made of green chalkboard for some designer graffiti. Other crazy tchotchke's on wall range from a bicycle to a suit of armor. also scattered around are several small tv's playing cult classic movies, like Pulp Fiction.
If you use the link above and go to Eli Cannon's website, you can see all the beers thay have on tap. its like over 75. so yeah, the selection is pretty damn good. While there for the Hooker tasting i had the aforementioned Oak-Aged Liberator as well as two other Hooker offering, the Imperial Porter (which is amazing on tap) and the Hop Meadow IPA off cask which tasted more like a DIPA than an IPA.
The service was friendly and flexible. Our server brought over a small chalkboard with the taps that day (which change daily). easy to order, the server knew what we were talking about and was friendly. He sat with my party (of 5) as he took our order. it was a very good time. the prices were very reasonable. the food was damn good. i had french onion soup and the rude awakening, which is a spicy burger.
Overall it was amazing, i will go here over and over again. easy to get too, great selection.
the only knock, and its slight, is the size of the bar, it is rather narrow. but who cares, makes a comfy experience that forces socializing. if you havent been here, go here. simply a beer haven or heaven.

Came here on a Wednesday night.
A - Happy hour crowd of craft drinkers. Music is more new age and there are a few TV's with the local sports teams. They have odd chairs like barbershop seats and such as you enter. Certainly different.
Q - Glassware was a bit odd (drinking glasses?) A list of offerings that is maintained daily was a big help.
Serv - Bartender was attentive and given I was in the corner it was impressive I got prompt service. All pours were spot on.
Sel - 36 taps of craft. When I was here there was a Sixpoint tap takeover that had 10 of them. Just about every style covered with localsdomesticsimports given room.
F - I had the Philly cheesesteak which was massive. And it was yummy.
V - $5 pours are unheard of in NY. So to me it was a steal.
I'll be back, as I'll be in the area for work.
