A ~ Pours black with a maroon hue. Head is sparse, but very dark (again, in a "red" way)

S ~ Baked Apples, grape juice, vanilla extract, Quaker Oats, lactose...some herbal notes.

A ~ Burnt espresso & Hershey's Baking Chocolate dominate the palette with very ashy malts close behind. There is somewhat of a hop backbone that is very organic & resinous tasting. Malted milk & frozen yogurt are in the mix. There is an ester note that I cannot identify, but it reminds me of dried cherries & currants. There's a splash of whiskey in the flavor as well.

M ~ Sticky & Sweet but with a good amount of burnt malt to back it up. Not the smoothest Oatmeal Stout in terms of carbonation, but it still has the lush feel on the sides & tip of the tounge. Hop bitterness is moderate, with contributing bitterness from the malt. There is some booze on the throat.

D ~ Great to see a high ABV Oatmeal Stout readily In available in 4-packs. Thanks to Brad for hookin' up one of my wants. This'll be a great Wintry brew.

A: poured nice and dark like a stout should be, great thick, dark tan head.

S: smells amazing! Lots of coffee, little bit of bitter dark chocolate.

T: loads of great coffee flavor followed by some slight bitterness from the hops with the slight chocolate after swallowing.

M: wonderfully carbonated, smooth and creamy from the flaked oatmeal.

O: the perfect breakfast stout. Tons of coffee flavor, followed by just the right amount of chocolate.

12oz bottle poured into Spiegelau tulip.

A: Pours pitch black with minimal tan head.

S: Lots of roasted malt, coffee, and vanilla.

T: Smokey, bitter burnt coffee, roasted malt, leather, a good hop presence, and a slight metallic after-taste.

M: Medium body, carbonation comes through more than expected. Surprisingly crisp, rather than the silky-smooth feel I'm accustomed to in most oatmeal stouts.

O: I'd say this was good, but definitely not great. My biggest gripe might be the smokey burnt coffee seemed to take over the entire beer. I think coffee can be great in stouts, but this one just went too far with it.

Thanks to Skuter, ChewyLewy, and scribe594 for sharing this one at Skuter's tasting.

Pours an almost opaque super dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oat, and cocoa aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, char, and oat flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice cocoa and char combination going on in the flavor.
