12 oz. bottle poured into snifter

L: black in the glass topped by a thick, late-percolating head of tan to almost brown foam about 1/2- to 3/4-inch tall -- the head is a real late bloomer, pretty awesome to watch; the brew appears to be clear as you watch pour out of the bottle, but stacked in the glass, light has no chance of passing through; some funky lacing -- really cool pattern of tiny islands, different from most.

S: chocolate, dark chocolate at first ... some coffee/espresso; dark ... maybe not licorice but definitely some raisins or prunes, not a ton of sweetness; burnt oak/wood; as it warms, here comes the sweetness -- very nice, mocha latte note ... may also be real sweet raisins (raisin cookies), but bottom line is some sweetness is poking through and it's fantastic

T: dark-roasted malt, burnt almost but not quite, very woody -- like a barbecue with some good burning oak; not a ton of sweetness but enough to balance a big bitter chunk of burnt malt; still, the absence of the sweet finish is noticeable ... definitely not a milk stout

F: very lightweight, almost watery for an otherwise big stout ... sounds bad, but it's not because the good amount of carbonation makes it very drinkable and enjoyable -- not the overly slick, mouth-filling workout bigger stouts often tend to be

O: solid, good, not great ... the lack of sweetness hurts it a bit for me, but otherwise it's got some good dark malt notes, especially the dark/semisweet chocolate and coffee. absolutely NO alcohol present in the nose or taste, which makes it damned dangerous because the 8% ABV (as posted on the brewery's website) is not a joke.

This is actually the first oatmeal stout I have tried. I've been stuck on IPA's over the summer, and I picked this up at HEB on a whim, as a change of pace.

Pours a dark black, with about a finger of tan head that maintained through most of the time I was drinking this beer. It left a nice pattern of tan rings down the side of the glass.

Initial impression on the nose was sweet, with hints of chocolate.

Taste is chocolate, coffee, with a lightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is fairly creamy compared to the beers I've been drinking lately. I had to go back and check to see that this is 9% ABV, the alcohol is pretty well hidden in this beer

Overall, I like this, and will put it on my list to get again. If there are better oatmeal stouts I'm looking forward to trying them.
