I had the chance to try Muggles at a launch party at Hi Hat in Austin. Really liked it. Good body, good texture. Just read on their website that it was a single batch; that's a shame.
More on this beer:
For all the Muggles out there trying to get a glimpse of the magical, a sound of Armstrong’s trumpet, a taste of the divine, here’s the secret handshake to get you in the club. Muggles Double IPA is a 12-bar blues hop trip that features Citra hops complemented by the floral and citrus aspects of Summit and Cascade. It’s a beer that’s proudly hoppy, but surprisingly balanced and drinkable, having most of the hop profile shine through aroma and flavor rather then up-front bitterness.

Served on-draught at Independence Brewing last Saturday. Reviewed from notes. Served into a pilsner glass. 115 IBUs. 9.0% ABV according to their beer board.

A: No bubble show forms as it's poured.

Pours a 1.5 finger head of white colour. Nice thickness and creaminess. Pretty good retention - about 3-4 minutes. Okay lacing.

Body colour is a nontransparent copper of above average vibrance. Juicy looking. Appealing. No yeast particles are visible.

Sm: Nice floral and brisk piney hop character. Nectary. Pale malts. Nice fresh citrus zest. Fresh and appealing. A moderate strength aroma.

T: Floral and nectary, with some great fresh citrusy notes - though it does flirt with a stale orange juice note. Nice balance otherwise. Below average intensity and depth of flavour. Average duration of flavour. No naked bitterness comes through. It's on the sweeter end. I do like it for what it is. Honey. Clove honey.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Nice carbonation. A biteen oily. Nice body and presence on the palate. Complements the flavour profile well. Somewhat soft.

Dr: Drinkable and enjoyable. I might get it again. A passable IIPA. Hides ABV well. The stale orange juice note does hold it back.

I later tried it on-cask at the Texas Brewers Festival in Austin, TX in 2013. Reviewed from truncated notes:

A: Pours no head whatsoever. Body is a dark murky copper. No bubble show forms. No yeast is visible.

Sm: Fermented fruit - apricot, peach. Pale malts. No yeast/alcohol is detectable. It comes off rotten and nectary. It's an unpleasant aroma of mild strength.

T: This is bad. Over ripe rotten peach and apricot fruit dominates. Maybe the cask spent too long in the sun? It's imbalanced as hell, and is simply poorly built. Low depth of flavour. Below average intensity and duration of flavour.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Okay body and presence on the palate. The texture just doesn't suit the flavour profile well. It's decently carbonated for a cask ale.

Dr: Low quality and difficult to quaff as a result. I wouldn't get this again; it's really poor stuff. Stick to the draught offering; the cask version is horrendous.
