One dimensional, slightly hopped-up, version of an ESB. Not enough malt backbone to make it terribly appealing, and too heavily carbonated to make it feel true to style (or even terribly drinkable for that matter).

I bought a 6-pack of this and now I'm wondering what to do with the other 5. I guess I'll try my next one fresh out of the cellar and see if I can taste the dilactly & caramel maltiness others have talked about.

Update: Allowing this beer to warm to near room temp (60-65 degrees F), is the way to go. It opens up and becomes far more drinkable. The carbonation lessens and the malt backbone becomes more distinct. Once at the proper temperature, this is almost up there with having an ESB off cask. Good stuff.

I got this beer as an exchange from a family member in New york so I have no idea how long it was cellaring.

This was my first ESB so it would be wrong for me to judge it but... I swear to what gods I find holy this beer is the best ESB I have ever imbibed! And i have have tried many a bitter since.

I would love to try another to get a more objective review, until then: If you get a chance to try this beer GIVE IT A TRY.

On tap at the Village Tavern in Geneseo, NY.

Pours a golden honey color. Mildly hazy, looks unfiltered. Strong visible carbonation, 2 inch head. Some small spots of lacing throughout the session.

Sharp English hop aroma- grass, apples, pears.

Great taste. Pretty hoppy for what it is- a lingering hop bitterness stays throughout the session. Some apples and pears in the taste too, along with grass, biscuity malt, slight wood.

Medium to light body, crisply carbonated.

I'm really getting into English bitters these days, and I love this one a lot.

Bottle poured into my Newport Storm balloon glass. No freshness date on the bottle.

Burnt orange body with a vibrant white head.

The aroma is hard to place. It smells like a scotch ale with the faintest hint of hops poking through.

Very malty with hints of caramel. The hops make an appearance on the back of the tongue.

Overall, very enjoyable. I would drink this again.
