L: deep, dark ruby red with a small tan head that dissolved into a ring
S: caramel, sweet malt, dark fruit, yeast
T: roasted malt, caramel, cherry, prune, yeast, no hops or bitterness
F: smooth & rich, little carbonation, fills the mouth and glides down the throat, pleasant aftertaste
O: an excellent easy drinking Scotch ale. The 9% ABV is warming, but you don't taste it.

Pours dark, clear brownish ruby, with substantial tan head and lacing.
Aroma is malt and estery yeast smell, a la a Belgian dubbel. None of the smoke often found in such brews.
Flavor is light roasty malt, (very apparent) caramel, some raisin/dried fruit , with a bit of tannic sourness , in the back of the throat/palate, on the finish, and some light lingering bitterness on the tip of the tongue.
Feel is smooth, moderately creamy/oily, with just enough carbonation prickle to notice. The 9% abv is ~invisible. Dangerously easy-drinking.:0 :) Not my favorite of the type, but pleasant, and I wouldn't hesitate to have it again.

This beer poured like perfection. Coppery orange with red highlights and clear. Head was tan and thin but pretty and refreshed well until it finally fell to the big abv. Stream of bubbles. 9%.
Nose is vibrant with fruit and rich with malt. That is what I love about this beer. It's the very definition of malty and has lots of earthy peat. There is good firm caramel on the nose but the fruit is so enticing. The malt is like rich hearty bread with lots of softness. It smells sweet.
Flavor is smooth and rich. Lots of hearty malt travels the palate with plenty of vibrance. Then there is lively plum and more in the background some softer dried fruit like raisin. Full and malty this one never ends with lots of soft baked bread and dried fruits. the alcohol is very light even for 9 percent and this one drinks like what the wee heavy is famous for. It has a friendly warming in the chest as you sip it. It's hearty enough to get a good chewy mouthfull. The hops are modest but the do show up a few times to pepper this beer and give a good clear finish. That's really when you see just a glimpse of their spice that was in the drink all along and a little herbal with a nice clear bitterness that does not stand out but lets the malt linger dry.
Another terrific beer from Middle Ages. You could drink it all day

this is everything i want in a scotch ale, and its perfect for the fall time. its rich in its grain composition, packed with earthy but not smoky red malt and with some caramel to round it out, but this particular version is approaching bone dry, not laced with residuals like many others, which for me makes it close to perfect for the style. its fuller bodied, frothy as they come, and with just enough carbonation to keep it moving, but it has english barleywine elements with the yeast structure and with the alcohol strength that just pierces through a little bit. its a rich brew, a bomber worth sharing i think, but not necessarily too much for one man. its dry in the finish, almost like a real high attenuating irish ale yeast was used, it has that level of completeness, but tastes like an english strain. my favorite scotch ale of the season so far, and one of the better middle ages beers going at the moment.
