This is technically "my local" because it's on the corner of my block, but I tend to go up the street a little further to St. Andrew's Tavern because their selection is bigger (though their quality isn't always good). Anyway, this place is a good little pub.

The exterior is red brick with blue and yellow trim. Lots of windows all the way around it. At night it has a really inviting glow from the warm lighting inside which really draws you in. Makes you feel like a moth to a flame!

The interior is divided into three rooms. You enter into the main room and can walk straight up to the main bar. There is a second, smaller bar in another room off to the left, but that is only open when it's busy. The third room, connected to the second room, is just tables and chairs. Larger groups tend to stake out that area on the busy nights. During the warmer months, they put a few tables and chairs outside.

The ambience is warm and inviting, music not to loud. Seems to be largely a local crowd inhabiting this place. There are a few companies nearby (like the Norwich Union call centre), so in the early evenings, the pub is filled with the after-work set. People grabbing a quick pint before heading home. You definitely get the feeling that everyone knows each other. Friendly atmosphere. Live music sometimes.

Service is good, typical. The bartenders are friendly, chatty. As with most UK pubs, it is serve-yourself.

The beer selection is not the biggest in the world. It's a Greene King pub. On cask: Greene King IPA, Abbot Ale, and Highgate Black Pig Mild. Tap: Guinnes, Extra Cold Guinness, Stella, Caffrey's, and Strongbow. Bottled: Becks, Newcastle, Holsten Pils, and a few others. They also serve a few wines, shots, and alcopops. I usually get the Black Pig Mild... very tasty. The quality of the cask ales is good. Since they only have three handpumps, the turnover is fast enough for the beer to be fresh.

They do serve food (sandwiches, snacks, vegetarian stuff) and it does look pretty good, but I haven't tried it yet.

All in all, it's worth a pop-in if you are in the area, if only just as a starting point to the evening (which seems to be what a lot of people use it for). (2,209 characters)
