A complete dump. The website conveys this place as a beer-friendly restaurant and "grill," but the kitchen was closed at 8pm on our visit. Regrettably we decided to grab two drinks at the bar, where we received surly and incompetent service from some low-life meat head who didn't know anything about the beers on tap. A few of the draughts listed were not actually available, and the greasy, unfriendly locals were all giving us the stare down while we drank. As I was finishing my second beer, a tall chunky woman knocked my coat off the stool beside me and, like a true coward, disappeared into the bathroom before I could confront her. That was enough BS for us - we paid the bill and walked to the Blue Monk (a world class beer bar). Needless to say, I would not recommend this shit hole to any beer geek with a semblance of dignity. Avoid at all costs.

Colter Bay is a good place to grab a beer and a casual dinner...the place is pretty low key, not particularly done up, but its a laid back vibe. Food is solid, good selection of sandwiches and burgers and the sort, with just enough flair to set it apart.

Beer list is consistent, but rarely has anything to wow you...this isn't the bar to go to find rare stuff. They do like to feature NY breweries, so always have at least one of Ithaca, Blue Point, Ommegang, Southern Tier, Saranac, etc. and usually have happy hour specials on these beers. Usually one or two taps have slightly more interesting selections, but you'll always be able to pick one that you like.

Value is pretty solid as well, especially during the week; they usually have one 'group' of beers on special (e.g. Sam, or NY crafts) each night.

On Friday and Saturday nights can get pretty crowded with college and just out of college crowd drinking Blue Lights and Molsons, but thats about the only crazy times. Also they have a small amount of outdoor seating thats a great people watching place in the summer.

Colter Bay is the fourth of my bar-hopping stops, and is only a short walk from Allen Street Hardware. The interior is bright, airy and clean, but not really what I look for. I do however like the islands bar that everyone is sat around - it affords a panoramic view of the diverse clientèle and presents a nice opportunity to see all the action. My server is friendly and in no time there's a Great Lakes Commodore Perry sat in front of me. Damn, I love Great Lakes, and this will be my overriding memory of this bar. That, and the peanut machine, which dispenses a handful for only 25 cents. Oh, and I won't forget the server doing shots with the customer - the second time I've seen this today, and perhaps a classy Buffalo tradition. Overall, Colter Bay impressed me. It had a nice range of around 30 local, national and imported taps and commands a good location. If I find myself back in the area I'll be back, but right now dinner is calling.

Went in on a Saturday night at about 12:30 am on a bar hopping spree, atmosphere was decent, everyone seem about mid-twenties or college aged which although I'm of the same demographic I'm not out for frat party with a bunch of morons which seemed to fit the bill, politely weaved our way to the bar which got us as few dirty looks even had my arm knocked jolting my pint spashing on my buddy's jacket.
as for beer they had 15-20 micro's on tap from a wide variety of breweries ( from memory dogfish head, sixpoint, boulder, sams adams, sackets harbor, that's all I can recall)
cost $7.50 for a pint of Planet porter and DFH 60 minute IPA
will most likely head back here some other time since the selection looked good and had somethings I don't see in bottles on tap

Colter Bay is way too crowded. I have never been here when there was actually room to sit at the bar and have a normal conversation with someone while enojoying my beer (i.e. without shouting/yelling/text messaging). Their beer selection is nothing to write home about. Yes they have southern tier, ellicottville, flying bison, smuttynose, and some regular imports that you would expect like guiness, harp, bass, etc..) All decent brewery's and ok beers, but they have no belgians! Their only "belgian" beer is stella which sorry, in my opinion, is not very "belgianesque" at all.

A grand majority of the patrons that frequent this place are yuppie college kids which is not my scene at all.

I guess that their food is all right as far as bar food goes and their prices are not too bad ($4 a beer or so). But all in all it's just not my type of place.

My first time trying this place out last night and I enjoyed it,located in a nice little strip on Delaware and Allen Street so there was a little action outside, inside as you walk in is a cozy wrap around square bar with a few tables around a very narrow hallway takes you back to a bigger dining area.A nice amount of people in there with two televisions that had the Texas-Sucknut game on I was a bit annoyed by the fact with all the taps to choose from I saw way to may Coors light and Blue bottles in the hands of many.I counted 23 taps although most say they have 25 maybe I miss counted, anyways there was a nice mix Smuttynose Old Brown Dog,GL Edmund Fitz,Southern Tier Harvest, and Flying Bison O-fest were some highlights as well as the Leffe Blond and Paulaner O-fest.The bartender was cool and gave my wife samples and all local NY brews were $2.75 a pint so I had a few Southern Tier Harvests wich I really like. All in all a nice place I'll be back and will likely grab some grub at some point.

*** Part of a walking bar crawl with Allen Street Hardware Cafe and Presca ***

Corner joint with an impressive tap selection and a heavy locals vibe. After sitting in the corner of the fron bar, I noticed that they have a great beer chalk board! It's more up to date than their website:
TAPS: Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, Ayinger, Bluepoint Blueberry, Magic Hat #9 & Hi-PA, Flying Dog Pale Ale, Southern Tier, Flying Bison Maibock, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, Elliger Pale, Ithaca Aprcot Wheat, New Castle, Stella, Hoe and Smithwicks. Bottle selection is virtually non-existant with Singletrack, Sam Smith and Geat Divide ESB.

Interior is like a country kitchen diner meets sports bar with waist high curtains and woden benches along the big glass front and flat screen t.v.s. Oter amenities include Golden Tee and a juke box. Dug the comfy locals crowd. Food looks like standard pub fare.

Last call: Could you bring Mom here? Ummm... No. This is a sports bar with good beer taps.

Multipe flat pints, off tastes. I'm gonna guess they don't clean their lines at all and have issues with bacterial infestation (High Point Bluberry Ale was fermented). I would ask to sample first, unless it's the Ellicotville Pale Ale, which is always fresh. Now, if they could only apply whatever they do the the Ellicotville to the rest of the taps...

Cheers: The selection is superb for a Buffalo Bar. 24 taps: Arrogant, Magic Hat, Smutty, Redhook, Ellicottville, Southern Tier, Flying Bison, Ithaca are just a few. Can get blind drunk without visiting the ATM again. Girls will use the boys room if there is a line. Friend stated that the Chicken Gumbo soup was the best soup he had ever had. Pretty bold statement. Last St Pats ran out of Killians and served Guiness at same price. Bartenders and waitresses skilled. Quick to refill empty glasses. Jackalope. Weekdays sometimes empty which enables you to make the bar your private party. Able to drink on the sidewalk in the summer and interact with the Allentown "locals."

Jeers: Bathroom again is horrible, stunk like dried urine. Weekdays sometimes empty. They serve bottles of Blue. Too many taps devoted to crap. They don't pick up tips quickly. No urinal cakes. Den of unbashed conservatives. Fox news usually on the tele.
