Golden yellow with an amber hue and a dense, hazy appearance. Poured with a short, bright white foam that quickly reduced to a wispy cap. Fresh tropical fruit and herbal hop aromas with a touch of sweet malt and vegetable notes. Light bodied with tangy, biting carbonation. Tropical and spicy herbal hop flavors up front and through the middle. Pine hop bitterness emerges from the middle through the finish. A well done "light" ipa. Big hop character with a tangy, spicy feel despite the expected lack of maltiness.

Central City is like a long lost friend to me. I love their beers, but it has been years since I have seen one. I spotted some cans of the "session IPA" along with the standard IPA, both being no-doubt single can purchases. At 4% ABV, this meets the criteria of a true session beer. From a 12 ounce can, on to the beer:

Two fingers thick and frothy is the head, while below is a grapefruit colored body with a few visible bubbles floating to the top. The aroma is hoppy alright, albeit toned down. There's melon, tangerine, cantaloupe, pine, and grass. Mild aroma, but very complex.

Session ale indeed. Very light in body, and very light in the malt bill in ratio to the hops. Pretty clean and somewhat fruity, this ale also has a lingering whisper of burnt plastic (something must not have been perfect in the making of).

For those who don't want too much alcohol, this is an alright choice. Personally, I'll suck up the few extra ABV points and go for the IPA (to say nothing of their lovely Imperial IPA).

Yay cans. Loved their IPA when it first came here, but since then I think most of the cans that come here are underwhelming, too old, or just wrong. Not sure but they haven't been the same since they exploded. Hopefully this is much better. And even dated can, 3/11/14.

Pours a decent creamy fizzy 1 finger head that fades at a fair pace, touches of lacing, hazy slight sediment laden, orange honey colored.

Nose brings some hops, lighter, grassy, little floral with mild fruity notes, hint of orange rind, touch of watery malt underneath. That's about it.

Taste brings more light hops, some mild to fair bitterness, grassy hops, with a little leafy, floral, leafy comes out more actually, hint of an orange peel and generic fruity note, like hop water. Very light watery malt base, with nothing to really prop up the hops, which aren't bad though. Finish is dry light, hops get spicy bitter as there is nothing to back them up.

Mouth is lighter bod, little watery, decent carb.

overall at least this tastes fresh, nice hop profile, grassy, leafy, hints of fruit and citrus notes, decent overall but the watery malt base really just makes this kinda meh, I understand session IPA but you can still give it SOME backbone.

Deep gold with some red highlights. Huge white head and good lacing. Smell is tropical fruit.
Taste is perfect IPA tamed down to a 4.0%abv. Light and refreshing with the tropical fruit hops leading the way.Malts are just enough to make the style work. Mouthfeel is light but not watery and just enough carbonation. Overall a winner for the style. Surely a fine junior IPA.

this is the closest thing i have seen to founders all day, which remains the standard for these session hop forward brews. this stuff is new to colorado and new to the states as well, called red racer in canada, but bear republic wont have it. this is a very blonde beer, well carbonated, and just bursting with wonderfully fresh citra hop aroma and a hint of lemon lime soda. the malt bill is super light, not as bready and pils heavy as daytime from lagunitas, but in that vein, a little more on the pale than pils side though. hops radiate in the finish, the beer is real light but not watery, and in some ways reminds me of firestones easy jack, but this one feels a little less underflavored. awesome bubbles and a truly light body make this a wonderful warm weather session choice, even right from the can. its a fantastically refreshing drink, affordable in six packs, and soon to be probably pretty widely available here. not sure how big central city is, or what their plans are moving forward, but they have created a winner with this session ale. as good as most others and better than many here on the colorado scene. i suspect popularity will follow it.

A-Pours a hazy orange color. Head starts up as am inch-high mass of froth but it dies away to a thin film of bubbles. Still manages to lace nicely.

S-Interesting hoppy aroma. Has a unique citrusy aroma. Some tropical fruity hop scents as well; melon being an interesting descriptor I pick up. It's also a bit dank. A light, pale maltiness.

T-The flavor has plenty of pop behind it. Citrus and mango with some melon. Some lemony hoppiness. There is also a some of that dank, cannabis flavor. A softly supportive pale and bready maltiness backs the rather unique hoppy flavors.

M-Light, sessionable and bitter. Crisp. Buzzing carbonation. Impressed by the prolonged aftertaste. Session ale no doubt.

O-Another very tasty Session IPA. This brewery's regular IPA is one of my favorites so,I shouldn't be surprised that I was impressed by this brew.
