Yay, Red Racy is back and still in a CAN! The last time I saw our full-bodied lass, she and her Schwinn Flyer were bringing me an IPA. Now, she has both a Lager and a Pale Ale, plus she has not given up on her skirt. I have even convinced the Old Lady of the importance of stockings, a garter belt and a skirt, which she has agreed to on occasion. Love craft beer in a CAN!
From the CAN: "Central City Brewing Co. Red Racer Classic Lager is craft-brewed in small batches using only the finest barley malt, choice hops, special yeast and filtered water in every beer. Each batch is aged longer to help deliver its golden colour and crisp taste that only the best beers in the world enjoy. 'Cheers!'"
The first thing that jumped out at me was how pale a yellow the color was, along with a slight haze. Hmmm. I had a finger of rocky, bone-white head above the beer and it hung in nicely. Nose had a slight sourness to it, somewhat lemony. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium with a metallic tang on the tongue. I may be wrapping up Lager Day pretty quickly at this rate. Finish was flat, metallic, not really much to recommend it, CANned or not. Very disappointing, kiddo. Keep on peddling with this one, as far as I was concerned.

12oz can poured into a Duvel tulip.
Pours a odd cloudy super light yellow with basically no head. Nose is like pilsner malt, but it's super bland and not good.
Taste is very light, there's quite a lemon zest flavor, it's crisp with a somewhat thin mouthfeel. It's pretty easy drinking but not worth seeking out.

A 12 oz can from Al's of Hampden.
A: I reviewed the lager blind, no BA in front of me. My first reaction on pouring the pils into my glass was that Red Racer Lager is a misnomer. This is, at best a pils. Lo and behold I was right. The pils is barely yellow, like a drop or two of yellow food coloring in a glass of water. Attempting to make up for the piss (literally) poor color is a three finger head that is dense and craggy.
S: Soapy with a hint of herbal hops, fuller than the underwhelming color would indicate. Along side the hops, light biscuity malts appear.
T: An unpleasant combination of metallic tones and biscuits starts things off on the wrong note. Not a good sign of things to come. As the pils evolves, a green apple-like fruitiness comes through, not terrible but it gets old. Hoppiness is nearly nonexistent. For either a pils or a lager, this is a disappointment.
M: My notes say 'boring in a bad way.' It's too malty and sweet, not to mention the weak hops, to be a pils.
D: I'm glad I only got one can. A forgettable pils.

From a red 355 ml can, part of their summer sampler 12 pack. Pours out a slightly hazed straw hue, with a tight foamy head that slowly settles.
Crisp grains in the aroma, which make way for sweet bready malt, with small traces of DMS in the background.
Flavour dep't comes up a bit disappointing, as my impression of it is that equal to a domestic macro, with the exception that there is an actual hop presence available. Mild sweet malt up front, while some DMS pops out before some spicy and light grassy hops kick in towards the end of the middle and finishes things off. The aftertaste is rather unpleasant.
The mouthfeel is medium-light, with a smooth texture and minimal carbonation.
Surprising, compared to the higher calibre of the other beers I've sampled from Central City up until now. Not a very pleasant German Pils all in all, this one's a pass.

From: Premier Wine & Spirits
A: Pale straw golden body with two fingers of white fluffy head. Dissipated quickly and leaves little lacing.
S: Faint notes of grassy grains and malts. Not pleasing.
T: Much like the aromas, very weak notes of grassy hops and some malt backbone.
M: Light bodied and medium low carbonation. Water like texture and leaves little aftertaste.
D: This comes off as slightly flavoured water. Very disappointing.

First taste I thought this is an Adjunct Lager. One of the saltiest tasting beers I've had. Looks nice enough in the glass with a fine head and lacing. Thin body, pleasant carbonation. Faint malt liquor flavor but with a real dose of hops. Bitter, metallic aftertaste. Leaves me with wet cardboard and salt.
Overall, this is not a pleasing experience to me. There are such better Pilseners I have to score this one down.

Red Racer Lager has an extremely pale yellow body; it's probably one of the least colorful beers that I have seen, which isn't really an attractive thing. The head looks good, as it is two fingers tall, bone-white, and very rocky. Retention and lacing are great.
The nose is packed with a ton of sweet pale and a whiff of spicy hops. A little too sweet.
The flavor provides a pretty good blast of hops in comparison with the nose. A biting earthy bitterness from the hops is accompanied by a mettalic flavor. Next is a slightly fruity flavor that comes quickly and then recedes, leaving the malt backbone. The malt is surprisingly tame, and it provides pale sweetness and maybe a touch of cracker. The finish is somewhat abrupt, with another flash of bitterness and then nothing. Overall, Red Racer Lager isn't what I would consider "full flavor."
Very well carbonated with a light body and a dry finish.
Red Racer Lager is light and refreshing. It's probably meant to be a beer for the new craft drinker.

Can picked up at Julio's on our way to EBF. Served in a Hill Farmstead wine glass.
Pour brings a bright straw-colored beer with a single-finger white head and a good amount of lacing. The nose is lightly hoppy with a bit of straw and hay plus an unfortunate touch of DMS. The flavor has a bit of DMS as well, though not as much as in the nose. Other than that, some raw grain and very faint hops. Feel is light with high carbonation. Drinkability is decent, though there are certainly better options.

Poured from a 12oz can into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a very pale yellow color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick on the glass.
S: The aroma contains light caramelized malts, lager yeast and a good amount of hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of citrus and a very thin malt character. Then there is some lager yeast breadiness that comes in. The hops presence is decent for the style and provides a little bit of balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and a little smooth but a bit watery, light body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.
D: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, it’s a poundable beer because it’s pretty light but there are more flavorful options within the style.

I picked this up at Brass Rail Deli, poured chilled into a pils glass.
A - A very pale straw color looks like clear lemon juice with a 3/4 inch white as bone cap - moderate lace clings
S - The smell is slightly green apple w/ a mild creamy yeast note and lightly grainy odor
M - The feel has a lighter medium body w/ moderate carbonation and slight tang of yeast w/ light grainy tinges and mild sweetness, low bitterness and semi-dry finish
T - The flavor starts off ok with mild sweet and vegetal flavor w/ a slight grain and mild yeast tang but midway seems to lose steam w/ light sweetness and herb taste all lingering without much flavor it sort of flatlines halfway through and seems to have a cracker like pilsner malt taste and not much else -pretty pedestrian
D - This is ok, but there are plenty out there that exceed the flavor of red racer lager. It just languished in mediocrity. Hard as I tried to like this it was very middle of the road drinkability-wise for me

From Central City's summer mixed 12 pack. I like the cans - especially on vacation for the hotel pool.
This beer pours a super-pale straw colour - it's pretty much resembles light white wine, with lots and lots of thick foamy, rocky white head, which takes a fair spell to dissipate, leaving some chunky curtains of lace around the glass. Its smells of wet hay, a bit of yeastiness, and bready grain. The taste is biscuity grain, and some muddled lemon, yeast, and metallic minerals, chased away only slightly by the nice grassy, straw-like hoppiness. The carbonation is moderate, the body medium weight, smooth, and with a crisp grassy/weedy hop finish.
A pretty easy-drinking pils, even if it is a bit of a mess.

Can into a Sam Adams pint glass
Pours a very light yellow with a one-finger head which settles to a film quickly. Lacing is nice for a lager, forming white rings as you sip. Nose is yeast, lemon, perfume, and hay. Taste is subdued - grassy and touch of lemon with some sweet bisuit. Mouthfeel is very light but with good carbonation. Somewhat dry at the finish. I admit this is not a favorite style of mine but this would clearly be a good gateway beer for someone who is into macros. I will pass.

A: very light straw colouration with excellent clarity. Head was snow white in colour and about 3/8" tall initially, but dissipated quickly.
S: Pine, maybe some hops. Not the greatest but not bad either.
T: Slight malt and slight hops but bitter and metallic. Based on the smell and taste I suspect this can has been hanging around a while.
M: The mouthfeel was the best thing about this lager in my opinion. It foams up in the mouth into a creamy-feeling with a large amount of medium to fine carbonation.
O: A lager that is better than average.

Very pale, transparent body with lots of visible carbonation. The beer maintains a cover of bright white head. Looks mostly like your average lager.
Smells of light peppery hops (almost reminiscent of Japanese-style lager). A little dust. Very light malt with a little candy in the background. Doesn't really stand out.
A light, well-balanced lager. Decent amount of fresh grain flavour, which seems to set it apart from a macro lager. I almost feel like they did use Sorachi Ace here, maybe blended with other hop varieties. There's that nice lemon-pepper thing you find in rice lagers. No off flavours but I wish they had gone for something a little more forward. Well-made but a little on the boring side. This is listed as a pilsner but nowhere on the can does it say pilsner. Was the intention here to be a pilsner?
Decent medium-light body for a lager. Carbonation is a little on the fizzy side but I think it fits here.
I could easily drink a sixer of this stuff if I was in the mood for a light lager. There are better lagers out there but there are also much, much worse. I could see myself picking some of this up for a party or something if I lived in BC.

A - Pours a pale golden colour with a thin layer of head with little retention or lacing.
S - Mild on the nose, pale wheat and grassy hops.
T - Sweet corn, wheat and grassy pilsener hops. Classic pils flavours and a solid rendition of the style.
M - Medium bodied ale that fills the tongue and goes down smooth, finishing nice and wet.
O - Overall a tasty take on the style, though nothing overly mind blowing. If you're looking for an easy drinking pils, then this one will surely satisfy your craving.

12oz CAN into a pint glass watching the tele...
Red Racer Lager pours out a very bright yellow and seeing this is listed as a pilsner I can see why now, not sure why it says lager on the can. A bright white head with no life, no sticky. Smells include pale malt and some veggie scents with a small earthy hop build and yeast. Low and behold the taste is pretty standard and light and not up there enough for the lager billing. Pale malt and grass and light hops. Feel is thin and nicely carbed but the taste could use a boost. Easy drinking beer that is low in alcohol and taste, would love to take this camping with me.

Recently popped up on the east coast.
Pours a nice pale gold color with lots of fizzy head. Head quickly settles down to a patchwork film on top, plus sporadic lacing on the side of the glass.
Nice slightly sweet floral aroma with a small amount of hops in the nose as well.
Taste is a minor sweetness with a bit of grain. Some hop notes in the end, but nothing major. Mild malt flavor as well.
Overall, this is a pretty decent pils. Might be a nice gateway beer to introduce people to craft beer.

I love it when I see microbreweries make lagers. On-tap at the source itself, on to the beer:
Where's the color? It's barely straw color, and it were clearer, it would be Zima. Good head and lacing though. There a little hay and straw in the aroma, but not a whole lot with the intensity. The flavor is better though; it offers the grassy and hay notes you'd hope for from a pilsner and it's crisp and drinkable. Needless to say, it would make a good hot day beer.

Got this @ Trackside in Medicine Hat, Ab. Part of there summer sampler.
Bright golden yellow, clear. Nice thick head formation.
Light toasted grain, slightly spicy hop aroma
Smooth bready malt and some semblance of pilsner hop. Smooth. Slight metallic graininess in the finish
Smooth, medium body. Could use a tweak in the carbonation as it would impart more crispness
Decent, easy drinking beer
