Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: medium golden hue with a haze-free body and a strong effervescence. Head is a thick finger of frothy white foam. A nice chunky lace is left on the glass as the head slowly dissipates.

Smell: a little bit of a sour grain aroma; not much in the way of hops. A little sweet; still not bad for the style.

Taste: lightly grainy malt without the sourness of the aroma. There's some sweetness here too, and some noble/citrusy hops present. Bitterness is a little on the strong side for the style, but it's still fairly balanced. I like it.

Mouthfeel: light body but a huge carbonation that is bodaciously creamy. Just my style!

Overall: a very drinkable brew; not quite a perfect example of the style but a very serviceable one.

Another true to style and well-executed brew from Central City, this one is a remarkably pale straw hue, just shy of yellow, with a billowing white head that was difficult to tame. The latter left a complex lattice on the glass. Smells of very fresh pilsener malt, grainy with a touch of sweetness, lemon rind, and floral, spicy noble hops. A Czech pils but hopped with German Hallertau, with again a very fresh and vibrant flavor to match the malts. Impressed so far. Palate is rather devoid of fruity esters except maybe for the barest hint of apple, instead there's assertive grainy malts and some mustard seed/peppery spice, an interesting floral note like pollen or goldenrod, and lush green leafy hops that combine with the spice to evoke strong-tasting greens, almost like raw broccoli. Not sweet and very crisp with above-average carbonation. Mouthfeel is slightly oily from hop resins. Clean, refined bitterness in the finish. Quite pungent and dry ... Enjoyable if maybe begging for just a touch more sweetness in lieu of some of the graininess and green flavors. Fits Central City's ethos of aggressive hopping but fortunately from a pilsener perspective.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 26/11/13

A clear golden yellow with a thick stream of bubbles feeding a loose soapy two finger foam that quickly falls to a thick film that leaves some random lace as it falls

S noble grassy hops, lots of bread and biscuit, some dry cereal, a little honey and some apple

T more of the same really but a little more intensity, grainy, grassy, some hay, just a little spicy, noble hops are in charge but there's some balance,

M light bodied, crisp little snap to it, just on the foamy side of creamy, hay lingers on the finish

O decent pilsener, a little grainy but for the most part it hits the style, went straight down the hatch and that says something

I could plow through a bomber or two under a hot sun, worth a try but far from Central City's best

4, 3.75, 3.5, 4, 3.75 – Pours deep gold with a frothy ivory head that lasts a good while, draping the glass in lace. Bready malts and some leafy, herbal hops and a bit of something vegetal in the nose. The taste is a good balance of herbal noble hops, and a clean malt profile. High level of nearly prickly carbonation in the mouthfeel. A moderate bitterness and some herbal hops linger in the finish

OK, but a little light on the hoppiness and malt depth.

20oz pint for the Central City tap takeover at the Underground.

This beer appears a clear, pale golden straw colour, with one fat finger of puffy, bubbly, and somewhat creamy dirty white head, which leaves some stellar honeycombed lace around the glass as it slowly melts away.

It smells of biscuity, grainy pale malt, a hint of yeasty doughiness, a prominent applesauce fruitiness, and earthy, leafy, and faintly grassy hops. The taste is toasted, gritty, grainy cereal malt, a more acrid apple and dry pear fruit essence, and earthy, wet-hay hops.

The carbonation is average, not too peppy, and supportive enough, the body medium-light in weight, and a tad astringent in its smoothness manifestation, though this isn't entirely attributable to the hops. It finishes mostly dry, the graininess going native, and the mildly muddled hay field hops lingering about.

An approachable version of the style, as the typical big Saaz hops aren't really all there, which I find a bit surprising for this brewery, given the headiness of their bread and butter offerings. Still rather impressive, compared to the norm, and enjoyable all the same.
