The Canadian flag – red in the east; red in the west. Double Red. A perfect style for the “East meets West” collaboration born at the 2012 Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival between BC’s Central City Brewers & Distillers and Ontario’s Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery. This Limited Edition Double Red Ale has been single-hopped using the first release of the brand new “Mosaic” hops bringing out floral notes of Papaya and Guava, creating a unique flavour and aroma when married with the Pale, Munich and Three Crystal malts.

Poured from a bomber into a stemmed tulip glass and shared with friends.
A: It pours a deep brownish red color (mahogany?) with a short tan head that leaves some decent lacing.
S: There is pleasant malt nose highlighting some toasted grains, caramel and bread. The predominate aroma however is a big blast of hops with lots of fruit (tropical and citrus) and some spicy/piney notes.
T: The taste follows suit, but the malt comes through a bit more and the hops transitions nicely from juicy fruit to dry, bitterness!
M: There is a good amount of carbonation and medium-high body making the brew smooth and round.
O: This is a really nice (imperial?) red ale with a tasty malt backbone with lots of diverse hop notes.

Deep dark red with pretty ruby highlights. Mocha head, great retention and lacings.
Boozy nose, almost whiskey-like. Intriguing hop presence, bittering.
Tongue coating bitterness right from the start. Toasty caramel playing a predictably important role here. Finish is nice and nutty with lingering bitterness.
Lovely body on this one. Super smooth and substantive. Beer to savour.
Good one.

400th review!
Appearance- Pours a chestnut brown with a finger of frothy beige head.
Smell- Caramalts, papaya, gauva (mosaic hops)
Taste- Caramalts and then goes right to the Mosaic hops (papaya, guava). Finishes with a pleasant bitterness.
Mouthfeel- Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Has a pleasant stickiness.
Overall- A well executed collaboration brew between Central City and Flying Monkeys. The mosaic hops add a unique flavour profile that makes this brew quite enjoyable. Glad I got my hands on a bottle.

On-tap during Sessions 2013 festival.
Beer is dark red/reddish brown in colour.
Smell contains sweet caramel malt, perhaps a bit of rye. Some hoppy notes, a bit of fruit and floral scents. Toasty.
Hoppy flavours, fruity flavours that are hard to pin. Sweet caramel malt, floral. Toasted malt.
Medium bodied, moderately carbonated. Chewy and a bit oily. Really hides the ABV well.
Overall, pretty good.

Central City Brewing & Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery collaboration brew 'Red On Red' an Imperial Double Red Ale @ 9.5% , served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $8
A-pour is a clear dark amber with a medium size off white head which is leaving a spotty lace along the stein
S-Pale , Munich & Three Crystal malts combined with a`new` Mosaic hops creates a smell similar to a Cascadian Dark Ale
T-big tasting red ale , ah Imperial !!
MF-mild medium carbonation , full bodied ,
has that hoppy bittersweet finish that lingers on the palate
Ov-ok good beer, glad I got to try it ,
should be sample alongside HS - 3 Beavers or Lagunitas - Lucky 13

Collaboration with Flying Monkeys.
Appearance. Pours a deep amber-brown with a finger of thick khaki head that leaves some decent bands of lace.
Smell. Big tropical fruits. Papaya, mango, pineapple, along with a little caramel and light notes of floral hops, cedar, pine and grapefruit.
Taste. Big juicy hops with lots of that tropical fruit flavour again but there's also a good amount of molasses that I didn't pick up in the nose. Nice bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel. Medium+ body with creamy smooth medium carbonation.
Overall. Great hops in this one.
