An excerpt from the Max House beer menu:
"Intensely hoppy India Pale Ale with a toasted malt backbone to back up a citrusy/spicy finish from aggressive hopping with a blend of hops from the Pacific Northwest. IBU 70. OG 14 Plato"

The standard IPA look of medium copper, amber appearances. Froathy ivory foam caps the glass with persistence and lace. A very inviting presentation that's staple of the IPA profile.

Vibrant and citrusy with a nose chocked full of grapefruit, orange zest, fresh cut grasses, spruce, lemon pepper, and with the support of backseat caramel malt. A very inviting aroma that celebrates American hop aroma.

Light caramel sweetness frames the early impression while a build up of white grapefruit, citrus zest, pine resin, and grassy flavor come alive at mid palate along with slight vegital, lemony and apple-like esters. Finishing with the medium clean bitterness of hops, the beer seems a bit safe with hop bite, throwing the balance off just a bit.

Medium-full with an early creamy carbonation that holds onto a bit more malt sweetness than expected. Malty-dry in finish, a minty-grassy alcohol/hop combo makes this ale both refreshing and somewhat savory.

A seemingly safe IPA that showcases hop flavor and aroma over bitterness and dryness. Though the beer balances well, it doesn't explore the level of intensity that make world class examples. But well suited for the pizzas and spicier menu items, this beer makes a welcome complement.

Appearance: Hazy, light copper-hued body with a whitish head.

Smell: Smells of pale malts, faint sweet-scented caramel, as well as floral and pith notes, though not particularly robust or aromatic.

Taste: Pale malts, a bit of modestly sweet caramel with a hint of toasted French bread. White grapefruit, lemon, and some slight florals, though, as with the aroma, it's not quite bold, more ho-hum, really. Medium-plus bitterness. Very faintly resinous on the back end closing out with a flat, bitterish, lightly pithy finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall: An acceptable albeit very average IPA. Again with the low carbonation here.

On-tap at the brewpub.

Pours a clear copper color with a one-finger cream-colored head. The head recedes into a patchy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of bright citrus and tropical fruit hops with good amounts of pale malt aromas lurking in the background. As it warms a good deal of herbal hop aromas enter into things as well.

Tastes good. Pale malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by mild amounts of citrus and herbal hop flavors. Midway through the sip the herbal flavors fade a bit and the citrus hop flavors lighten up, turning more toward lemon than grapefruit. The ending is solidly bitter.

Mouthfeel is very good. It's got a very nice thickness with grainy carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I finished my glass without any problems and could have another.

Overall I'd have to guess this was liberally dry-hopped as the nose was very nice but the same wasn't reflected in the flavor profile. Still, a good beer that's worth a shot.

Had this one at the source during a friend’s bachelor party! Tick all day, every day! Served from tap into a sampler shaker. Poured yellow-orange with a half finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, citrus, citrus hop, earth, and earth hop. The flavor was of sweet malt, citrus, fruit hop, floral hop, earth, and earth hop. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. While this brew had definite potential it ended up falling a little short of what it could truly have been. This mainly came about from the earthiness going on in here as it covered up quite a bit of citrus. I would have loved to have the citrus pound my face in, but the earthiness wouldn’t let it come through which was rather sad. Worth trying if you go to the brewpub.

The most thoroughly middle of the road, brewpubbiest IPA I have ever drank.

By that I mean it would probably score a little lower, were it made by a bottling brewery. Because, you know, I judge those brewers more harshly. But it wasn't made from kit. There was nothing wrong with it--I had no problem drinking two of them. It just tasted a little off.

The barley roast wasn't quite what I look for in an IPA. The malt aftertaste was a tad bit syrupy. And the hops were present, hence the name, but very little care was taken in choosing the hop profile and so it was just bitterness without intricacy.

Pours deep orange with ample 2 finger head. Decent retention. Nice lace.

Nose is light herbs and pine hops. Very light though.

Taste is much bolder than the nose. Tart pine hit with a creamy sharp dry finish.

Body is just right for the flavor profile.

Not sessionable, but 2 or 3 would hit the spot.

On tap at the Grill.

A - Very nice deep amber color. Head retains very well.

S - In this atmosphere in a lively bar setting, it held up well in spite of the destractions.

T - Very nice solid IPA. Not as citricy as what I am used to from most IPA's on the West Coast but very nice. More typical of Eastern IPA's.

M - Very smooth. Even though the hoppiness comes through in the taste, it doesn't leave your taste buds feeling dry.

D - Easily a session beer if that's what you want. Could drink this all night.

On tap during Atlanta Beer Week. Slight chill hazy yellow-orange with 2 fingers of near white froth. Nice ringed lacing after a few sips. Smell of subtle citrus...and that's all I can come sense.
Tart citrus up front...pink grapefruit & navel orange rind. Clean with some good bitterness. Touch of sweet. Pretty drinkable.

I had this after the Deamon D’or (a Belgium ale offering from the same micro brewery). It was a welcome change to a style that I like over Belgium ales. It was very good, maybe a little sweet and syrupy. There wasn’t anything spectacular about it, but I do remember enjoying it. It had a good balance of hops and malt, and must have been easy to drink because I had two.
