This is one of those little places that make the NYC beer scene so special. Its basically a subterranian, hole in the wall, Indian spice and groceries shop that happens to stock a kick ass selection of fine quality beers from around the world. 2 blocks uptown from DBA on first ave, this lower east side stop, crams a ton of fine brews into a wall of coolers. Mostly single bottles. All the usual micros including Stone, Bear Republic, Bklyn, DFH etc etc, also Abbeye Des Rocs spotted. They claim to carry over 400 beers. Nice selection of brews from India and the subcontinent. Well worth a visit. Open from 11-midnight daily

Who would have thunk. Dowel has a pretty size-able selection that comes as a surprise. The only problem is that things don't seem to move at the speed they should. I found a Stone 8th Anniversary here once. It was in the middle of who knows what other beers, which can be the level of organization there sometimes. You will just find things in the middle of other random beers, labels turned away from view. Prices are a bit high. If you live in the neighborhood, it's good for you. If not, why not just go to some of the committed beer stores not far away.

Not a bad little place to pick up a wide variety of interesting brews. All are stored in a wall of coolers on the right side of the store. The store is in a basement and feels that way. Besides beer, they stock alot of Indian, vegetarian, vegan, and other specialty foods.

The inclination is towards imported beers here, with an average selection of American brews, but alot of German, Belgian, English, and other stuff.

I got some Lion Stout, Saison Dupont, and Casta. Prices were slightly higher than I can find other places. If you live in the neighborhood, you'd probably go to New Beer Distributors first and foremost, but this place would not be bad once in a while.
