Deep sherry color with no crown but a small hint of lace around the top. Heavy sweetness with a slight aroma of hops and even smaller aroma of alcohol. Malt sugar taste presents at first. A slight hop presence follows through but is killed by alcohol. Thick and chewy mouthfeel with an appetite supression heavyness.
This is a staple of mine at #1 and has always been a favorite in the colder months.

I tried this beer at the Daily Growler as part of a six sample flight. It poured a clear copper with thin white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had caramel malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt and peat presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body. Overall it was a good beer.

The appearance was a nice looking hazy amber to orange color with no head nor lacing. No worries, it is a sample glass. The smell had a smooth semi - smoked maltiness running into a light cocoa and light coffee. The taste was mainly the same balanced underneath and glossing into the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat controlled. Overall, I say this was a pretty good Scottish ale.

Always get a growler of this from the brewery and have for the past 15 years. A personal favorite.

Poured from the growler in a snifter glass. This fine ale pours a beautiful clear copper amber color with a decent quickly dissipating head of white foam that leaves a thin ring and pool of foam with very nice lacing. Nose of sweet caramel malts, light brown sugars, excellent floral hops, and moderate wheat notes. Flavors follow the nose with sweet caramel malts and sweet wheat flavors slickly sliding back to a subtle floral hop characteristic with a sweet malty finish. Perfect for the style and highly sessionable ale features medium carbonation and a slick smooth mouth feel.

Excellence, as always. A fantastic flagship.

Cheers

Very good Scottish Ale. I recommend you drink this first before any of their hoppy beers.

Another stop at Barley's Brew Pub, another house offerings on tap to try.
Light copper color, short head, off white head with good retention, thin sheet lace.
Aromas are sweet malt, about as expected. Slight amount of toasted malt, maybe a hint of smokiness by the end as it has warmed up.
Taste has the malty sweetness, but also some bitterness, and maybe some spice. Woody, earthy finish.
It was just a touch on the thin side, but still creamy. Smooth and easy to drink.
Have yet to try a bad beer from Barley's.

On tap at the brewery. Pours amber with a short lived white head. Aroma is of green apple, and caramel malt. Body is medium and smooth. Earthy hops, caramel malt and ripe fruit fill the mouth. The finish is long and semidry. Tasty, easy drinking brew.
